Hey everyone 👋

I’m new to domain investing and just starting to explore this exciting space. It's fascinating to see how digital real estate can hold so much brand power and business potential.

So far, my highest investment in a domain has been $30 — a small step, but an exciting one for me as I learn the ropes.

I’d love to hear from those more experienced in the field:

👉 What’s the largest amount you’ve ever spent on a single domain?
👉 Was it a risky move? A big win? Or a lesson learned?

Feel free to share your story — I’m here to learn from the pros. 😄

Dropping thirty bucks on your first domain is a solid way to dip your toes in. My bigger leaps came once I felt more confident, helped by side gigs like trading with blackeaglefg.com, which gave me extra funds to play around with. As you grow, you’ll get a feel for which names are worth stretching for, and which ones are better left on the shelf.

In my experience, new TLDs (.ai, .io, .xyz) have genuine use cases but they're not investments in the same way .com domains are. End users buy them for projects, not for resale. Price your expectations accordingly.

Paid GBP 8k for a LL .co.uk+uk pair. .. have to admit that I sold it with loss when needed cash for other needs :) .. and, from even other perspective = sold these as the result of 2 sent emails. .. :) LLs of decent ccTLDs are liquid :)

In my experience, escrow services are non-negotiable for any sale over $500. Escrow.com is the industry standard. Never accept or send payment outside of escrow for significant transactions.

$30 is not a bad place to start. I’d say the biggest lesson is that the purchase price is only one part of the investment.

A cheap domain can become expensive if there is no clear buyer, no renewal plan, or poor ownership records. A higher-priced domain can still make sense if the buyer pool, use case, and holding cost are clear.

In my experience, the aftermarket platforms have different strengths. Afternic for high-volume exposure, Dan.com for clean landing pages with installment plans, Sedo for international buyers. Listing on multiple platforms simultaneously is the way.
