What does DomainSite include?

I'm seeing domains offered here that are reg'd at DomainSite.

I don't have an account there and I'm trying to work out if it's worth doing it - I can't work out if they are being "economical with the truth" in describing their service.

Does that $6.99 service allow you to leave a domain with them, but change the nameservers to be your own? I suspect not - that's going to take another $5.99 right?

And what about transfers out - how easy/economical is that?

I have a domain with DomainSite and yes I can change namservers for free, Never tried to transfer though.


I personally like godaddy better

Best you change the DNS before or after transferring out. You absolutely can
not make any change while the transfer is ongoing.

It could range from easy to excruciating especially for newbies.

$6.99 is the basic registration. It doesnt inlcude any advanvced DNS features like URL and Email forwarding. You can naturally change the nameservers.

Paying a dollar extra you get a number of extra features, including the DNS.

The $6.99 "Basic" service includes "Name Server Registration" (which to me means registering subdomains of the domain - usually NS1, NS2 etc - to act as namesevers, not something you do very often) but NOT "DNS Management" (which would be the ability to change a domain's nameservers and therefore defines where the site is hosted etc, something you do on every domain unless leaving it parked at the registrar).

To get DNS Management you need "Full" Service - which costs:

"A Basic domain registration can be upgraded to a Full Service registration for a one time fee of $5.99. "

If you wish to add "DNS Managment" to enable features like url and mail forwarding, then it will cost another $5.99.

However, if you register the domains at the $7.99 plan, all the features are included in the price from the beginning.

This is correct. You can change your name servers, contact information, etc for the $6.99 price. If you want the added features like URL forwarding, email forwarding, etc you need to either go with the $7.99 option or upgrade to a standard registration.

DNS management is the management of DNS records (A, CNAME, etc). It is not the ability to add or remove name servers for your domain.

OK - thanks for the clarification.

Owen - It is worth saying then that your site probably sells your service short as (in my experience) the term "register nameservers" is a very specific and relatively rare requirement and not the same as "changing namservers" which is the key thing most people are looking for.

With a lot of suspicion about, it's always worth being completely explicit
