What in the hell is NameMatch? Why are my names Listed For Sale?

Does anyone have any idea what Name Match is?

Obviously it is another "new" service by GoDaddy.

When I was looking at Watching Auctions a few minutes ago, I noticed something new above the auction summary:

There were Six names listed as Recommended Auctions.

All six that were recommended are mine!

I have never listed these for sale of GoDaddy or TDNAM. Bizarre!

But here's where it really gets freaky. When I clicked on one of them, this is what I saw:

There is a Minimum Bid and a BUY NOW that was never set by me. This is a name I recently won on TDNAM and recently placed into my account.

Could this be left over data from the previous owner???

Whatever the situation, this is not cool - to be offering domains for sale (especially with a BUY IT NOW option) with data I never authorized or entered.

And yes - ALL SIX appearing were listed with a minimum bid and a BUY IT NOW option.

It is a FREE service. They MATCH your name with their own pricing including Buy It Now so you dont need to worry and figure it out.
Hence the name NameMatch - I think!

I'll wait until I can speak to my account exec rather than a random person.

The scary part of this is IF a domain sold at a price point you would never have specified or accepted in the first place.

Honestly, I have no idea where those prices came from.

I looks like it picks up names that are fimiliar to your previous searches with godaddy and offers name sugestions that you may be interested in.

All six names showing up were mine. That is what is so baffling...why would it be suggesting to me my own names that I already own???

Not only that, but who priced them?

If you have a TDNAM account, see for yourself if this pops up.

I just checked and I see the same thing. One of the "NameMatch Recommended Auctions" is a domain I currently own that is not listed for sale on TDNAM. It shows a price of $5,000

Under my control panel the status for the domain listed shows - "Not Listed"

I really have no idea what this is, or where the pricing is coming from.

Yes, this has been happening to me too. The first time, it showed six domains - I own five, and the sixth was the .com version of a .net I own. Kinda freaky to see my own domains listed for sale to me, with exorbitant prices. (I'd prefer that they show my domains to other people!)

That is something else that makes no sense whatsoever...why show me Six Suggested Names when I own all six of them?

Perhaps this is something that GD is trialing but right now it appears to have quite a few bugs.

I see the name match thing, but it only shows me names that are the same as or similar to ones I own, but in different extensions. None of my names were in the list?

GoDaddy has been doing this for Long and that happens for ONLY those names that you might have recently Transferred into your GoDaddy account.

I chased them for answers and explanations for quite a few weeks asking them how could they list my names for Auctions without explicit permission from me.

They just shrugged the entire incident saying it might have been a mistake or the previous owner might have listed it there.

When I told them that I have owned the name for the last 4 years and I have myself transferred the name to GoDaddy recently, so in that case who gave them the requisite permission.

The Answer was a continued silence and no further replies to my queries.

Okay, I have found a couple of new features in my account dashboard. These can be disabled. Rather than having to call some clueless staffer at GoDaddy/TDNAM you can resolve this problem yourself.

• Log into your account and click on Account Manager.
  
• On the tab menu at the top, click on Buy/Sell.
  
• Scroll down to GoDaddy Auction Listings.
  
• Here you will see your entire GoDaddy portfolio.
  
• Look for the check mark above the blank boxes to the left of your domain.
  
• Hover over this Check Mark and click on Select All Pages.
  
• Go to the Control Panel icons and click on Remove Selected.

This should clear all domains listed on TDNAM.


BUT WAIT! There's more!


Go back up to Buy/Sell.

Scroll down to Premium Listings.

Here you will see a list of domains that includes Range, Recommended Price, and List Price.

I'll bet you didn't know that not only was your name for sale, but you were going to owe TDNAM/GoDaddy 30% Commission!

To stop this feature, follow the same steps as listed above:

• Look for the check mark above the blank boxes to the left of your domain.
  
• Hover over this Check Mark and click on Select All Pages.
  
• Go to the Control Panel icons and click on Remove

While you are in here, you might as well check other features in your portfolio, most notably Auto Renew. I found a large amount of domains in Auto Renew status that I did not specify.

Not only a sleeze way of arbitrarily putting prices on your name without consent, but then to turn around and charge you 30% commission for a sale that you did price nor authorize is so blatantly ballsy.

The one I posted images of is my domain with a Buy It Now price of $2,999.

Sorry, but I am not ready to give up BiologicalInformation.com for $2,999.


And a .net geo was priced in my account at a valuation of $22,000.00 but the recommended selling price was like $13,000.

It was ridiculously overpriced.

Wait, GoDaddy is actively selling domains that they do not have the authorization to sell?

And to get out of it - you have to go through a SNAFU so they won't sell your names?

What if they get an offer on one of your names - will they force you to sell it?

Seriously, if this is all true then I'll pull everything I have out of GoDaddy, I do not think this is legal at all.
