They are just different TLD (top-level domains) signifying the intended use for the website. Typically .com domains are used for businesses because it stands for commercial.

I think .com means commercial or TLD, .net means network based domain name.

There is no fixed "exchange rate" between the com and the net. Dot .net domains can sell for hundreds, or for tens of thousands of dollars. It all depends on the ability of the seller to extract a higher price from the buyer. I've sold .net domains for five figures. Germans love .net domains.

.com is used for commercial business; most of the online seller used this domain.

.net is used for networking services and internet service providers.

[dot]com is used for globally as it is commercial TLD. Most of the network companies using [dot]net by representing their service. [dot]org is used by organizations and trust. ... Yes, people in general type the domain and type .com after that, but that is because .com was first publicly known extension.

When you are choosing a domain name, one of the things you need to consider is what comes after the dot (in geeky terms, the TLD or Top Level Domain). ... .netdomain names were typically used by network companies (technical organisations). .org was traditionally meant for charities and non-profit organisations..
