It doesn't matter whether it's ww2, www2, wwww2 etc.; they are subdomains.
no - subdomain is www.___.___.com
if i put www.www2.warwick.ac.uk- doesn't work
its something weird - if i put
www2.ebay.com/ - doesnt work
but if i put www2.dnforum.com it works
yes this is right in a lot of cases this happens with affiliate programs where there are hosted sites or galleries, i think its found more in the adult end rather then the mainstream endYou are wrong.

We use www. domain dot com for our static site and www1. domainname dot com for our transactional site. The www1 can be www2, Fred or whatever you want to call it.
You can set it up so that one points to one container on a server and one points at another container, therefore when you take the static site down the transactional site can still be active. Hope that makes sense...
