I have a site that I have owned for a few years now that has something on a subdomain that is catching a lot of traffic. It is posted on numerous message boards & blogs, including postd on numerous daily read humor sites.. PR4 site, 963 results for the direct name in yahoo, 385 in google,etc..

Thing is, I never bothered to develop this site and left it on a subdomain, I should have regged a domain and forwarded the traffic to the new domain so people can bookmark it, At least then I can put adsense on it lol

Any suggestions? It is well established, would I lose traffic if I changed the url and forwarded everyone to a new domain name with the same content or would I be better off leaving it as is on the sub and perhaps selling link or banner adspace?

I have spent a total of $0.00 advertising this site :-D
Thanks Jason

Definatly move it, This is looking to be a very popular site and should be moved onto a TLD. You may lose a couple of people but not many.

Just reg a new domain and forward the subdomain onto the domain.

Also best bet may not be adsense if it's that popular, maybe some banner ads of say 1000unique page views etc.

I don't understand... can't you use adsense on a subdomain?

BTW, I would just leave this as it is... you know the old saying, if it ain't broken, don't fix it. It is very difficult to get a site well ranked and visited nowadays, why risk it?

Because, he can continue to forward it so his rankings with the subdomain stay, but when it forwards people will update their bookmarks etc and also google will increase the page rank. It's only a matter of time before it's back to it's usual level and then you also have a domain name.

Maybe a poll would be of good value here?

Thanks :)

I ended up registering a domain for it and putting a forward on the old site :)

Hopefully traffic will keep up :D

I tried with google before and they wouldnt allow it since it was on a subdomain and not on the main index of the domain name :(

Just the java, shocking huh? I guess it ended up into one of those fads everyone forwarded around and posted on message boards for their friends to see. Have a look on google/yahoo and you will see some of the posts, everything from a star wards from to joke blogs, to tech forums, etc

strange huh?
