Hi all,

I am thinking of putting up a site to hopefully rank well in the serps but I am not sure which domain to use. They are exactly the same but one is .net and the other is .org.

Which is best do you think?

Thanks,
Nick.

as long as you will do link building it wont matter. do link building relating to your niche on those sites, you will not have problems. I am telling you from my point of view.

Depends entirely on the name.

If the dot com is taken and to build a personal site, I would prefer the dot org.

Depends on the type of content. If your site is specifically about the internet or networking, then of course go for the .net. If it's more of a free informational resource... with no ultimate intent to develop it into a profit-making site, the .org is fine.

Generally speaking though, the .net is probably more preferable.

Depends on categories. With medical, disease, health and wellness sites the org is much better vs net (no comparison) and .org can even be as good as the .com in that category.

Well it is sort of an employment/graduate related website - not got much direction at the moment.

The domains are graduateschemes .org & .net

I was thinking of more of an informational site at the moment for graduates considering graduate schemes as employment etc so with that in mind would you prefer .org or .net?

School sites are also good with .org as witnessed by Biggedon's sale of QE.org for 20k to a school (job sites can work too since org denotes an element of trust more so than .com or any other tld.).

How strange, I know where that school is. Not too far from me - its a very good school. Congrats on the sale of course.

Well I did think using .org portrays authority and trust.

I would definitely prefer .net unless it is an organization. I think most surfers expect non-profit organizations and not mainstream sites to reside at .org.

I would use ORG over NET for everything unless it was tech related
