When .com is unavailable what would you settle for: .net, my+keyword.com or cctld? And please give reasons why.

Also if there is more than one keyword, what criteria do you use to determine when to reg the hyphenated .com?

It completely depends on the name, the industry etc. For instance... if CallMe.com is taken- this is a situation where Call.me hack would make a great buy. Hacks work well in certain situation but not other same with .org and .net. For multiple keywords- it would have to be a strong combination of at least 5k a month searches. Plus you have to tailor it to countries that do not mind the dash like Germany (.de) etc. Hyphanated .coms do well with strong keywords.

.CO ...provided that it is not a trademarked word/words. It really depends on the purpose; if it is business probably the standard 'i' , 'e', 'blog', etc..

Hyphenation?? hmm words like ice-cream ? :p just kidding

Let me expand on this question and add another question. Lets say you are interested in a domain name and your plan was to use it as a mini-site with adsense for steady income. The .COM is already taken and pointed to a parked page on SEDO or something. If you got the .NET name and developed mini-site with adsense ads, would you have chance of being P1 on google? This is assuming there is 5000+ exact monthly searches for the keyword phrase & low competition? Wouldn't your mini-site .NET probably have better chance of being indexed better than the Parked .COM?
