I just found my old pms are gone except the latest 4. Even it says I have 472 stored, I couldn't find it in the panel. Anyone can help?
You have 472 messages stored, of a total 1500 allowed.
Inbox contains 4 messages.

Never mind, I saw the thread below. I thought it would be better at least e-mail the heads up since not everyone will check the announcement everyday right?

I noticed a lot of the sent ones disappeared too. I knew about the clearing back at the beginning of the month, but it appears even more have been purged

Well, the thread where Adam said he would bring back old PM's has now closed. I guess they're gone foreever.

It seems the admin of this site has decided the best way to resolve this problem is ridicule or ignore those expressing their displeasure regarding the decision to delete years worth of private communications and close any thread that brings up the issue. We'll see how long this one stays open.

So lets see... some people decided to "wait and see" giving the admin the benefit of the doubt, assuming they would "do the right thing" by the users of this site... Gee. That didn't work. Imagine that.

This is a shame... especially since so little warning was given, and then we were promised things would be back last week. It's important to note that we're all paying customers; we should at least be notified properly when our PRIVATE communications are to be deleted? :(

I've seen other threads whereby people are discussing issues with the site/recent changes (albeit a bit off-topic), and instead of simply splitting the thread, it's simply been locked. For example, the charity ribbons have been removed (despite the fact that they cost money to buy). Some members were discussing this in a thread, and Adam came along and locked the thread as it was "off-topic"

...

It's much better to listen to paying customers, instead of trying to censor and ignore them :( That should be an obvious business rule for a businessman like Adam?

Still no PMs and still no announcement from the admins.
I get the feeling they are just waiting it out, hoping others will forget about it, and/or just go away.

Seems that way - I've contacted Adam 5+ times to no prevail.

Being ignored sucks, especially when being promised we'd have access to our PMs over a month ago...

I wondered what happened to all my old PMs. I was just going to ask support how do I access mine... then I found this thread.

It sounds like they warned us but for what its worth... I never saw any announcement.

The issue I am having with this "purge" is the info that I had in my PM's

I had all my software codes that were issued as a result of my exclusive membership....and the additional software I bought through DNForum.

I am NOT able to get a response for the replacement of this info......

so, what do I do??

I just logged on for the first time in 6 months - had some personal issues to deal with; needed a break.

Anyways, all but 2 of my 818 PMs are gone!

Did DNForum get hacked again?

Anyways, is there any hope of getting my PMs restored? -heck even a "dump" of them to a file will do ... or are they truly gone?

On the bright side, I did a PM backup shortly before my break ... but many folks likely didn't ... DNForum really should go the extra mile and restore all the PMs asap.

Adam has promised to restore PMs. We're supposed to be able to download them.

This promise was made over one month ago and I've heard nothing since.

Adam - promise? Hah.

(Sorry - but it's true. It seems that the admins don't want to communicate with anyone else on these great forums).

Just read the other thread - so the reason for the missing PMs is they took up too much space in the DB?

And in regards to "restoring" the forums ... I'm not sure what that's referring to ... was the whole forum DB corrupted or something?

Anyways, a restore shouldn't take more than like 30 minutes, plus maybe a few hours, and that's being generous, to validate the restored data - this is from experience ... I ran a vBulletin forum larger than DNF for years.

It's sad to see DNForum having so much trouble - load times are slow compared to before; getting some blank pages.

Well, enough complaining for today - hope that DNForum is able to get back to what it once was ... well, off to the sales section to see what's happening over there.

The pms were removed some time ago to free up the database. As the DB continues to grow and grow, the risk of a crash was something we do not take lightly.

We relased a post regarding this to download and save your pms a few days before they were removed.

We will work on trying to get something put back up so you can download them.

DNForum is small compared to some vBulletin forums out there ...

What specific DB limitation was DNForum running into that necessitated deleting all the PMs?

Being that DNForum is supposedly aimed towards the domain "professional", most of whom paid a subscription fee, perhaps a better approach would be to research how larger vBulletin sites handle their DB ... even consider a non-MySQL solution ... costs more, but would be less than the alternative of damaged "good will"; upseting people here creates a bigger opening for other "domain" sites ... off to one of them now to see how they've fared in the past 6 months.
