For your "mission-critical" domains, where would you host them, for a virtual account (i.e. not a dedicated server -- that one would be easy, Rackspace.com).

I currently have a few domains at XO/9netave.com, and their email has been terrible lately, and I'm thinking of moving. I already have a dedicated server for my less critical domains, but wanted to keep my most important domains with a hosting company.

Any recommendations? Verio maybe? Or another big and reliable host?

We have utilized the Pair Network (paid hosting) for nearly 5 years for our critical 'core' business websites. Absolutely fabulous service. Email svc. has a great 'catch all'.

Also I'de recommend StressFreeHosting.com (they have done an excellent job for our community site in the past) dedicated to customer service & very courteous.

I dumped XO/9NetAve a while back. It seems like they stopped caring right around the time they declared bankruptcy. The service became very unreliable and the tech support became much harder to get. I am with coastinc.com now and they aren't bad, but they do have fairly frequent "interruptions" - usually only a few minutes but frustrating nonetheless.

I have no good advice on a bulletproof host. If you find one, let us know!

For a business site where you need reliability, Hostway.com, has been perfect for us for over a year - but expensive.

For my personal sites, I used a less expensive ADDR.com, which is not as fast as hostway.

There are other services/groups that watch the performance of various hosts buy checking for uptime and response time, but I can't recall the names at the moment.

Hi George,

I would also highly recommend Pair for your mission-critical sites. I have used them for about 3 years with no problems or extended downtimes whatsoever. Very reliable. Reseller prices are also very good for the quality that they offer.

Webaxxs is also very reliable although the reseller package is more expensive if you plan on hosting many sites there. Been with them for about 4 years and only had one extended downtime about two years ago which was planned and scheduled ahead of time.
