WTF ARE ALL OF YOU SMOKING????

sorry..

20 K? 30 K? 100k? are you all completely insane?

It appears that this site is barely making anything (my assumption), also you could set up a website like this in 1 second.
http://www.hotscripts.com/PHP/Scripts_and_Programs/Networking_Tools/Whois/

imo the people on this forum always go way over board with there appraisals.

Whois, can you please tell me how much traffic you get, where it comes from, how long the sites been up, and how much money it makes per month, and how.

(My appologies for my bluntness)

My sentiments exactly. Yet another (message board) case of the proverbial 'monkey see, monkey do'.

Without any revenue how can one possibly appraise a site for such an amount? You cannot equate mod stature + (domain drop) resourcefulness into that 'much money'.

Nonetheless with traffic, branding, and every other factor acknowledged. I couldn't see this site being worth more than $1000-$1500.

Oh and before people go off and use Alexa.com as a reference - Let's be rational. All know domain speculators as well as webmasters have downloaded the alexa toolbar to inflate their own domain/site rankings. Thus, sites like DNF/WhoIS (who target direct to these domain speculators/webmasters) have amazing alexa rankings. Meanwhile this is in no way validates a large stream of traffic.

Just being honest.

Best of luck in your potential sale.

"There are thousands of people who love whois-search.com so much, they come back everyday...."

Same as with many many other sites, also, how can you make this statement, can you prove this?

maybe "thousands of people" was an exaduration
possibly hundreds of people

i know that i go to his site a few times per day
and i know a few others that do to
i see absolutly NO ads on the site at all

he could fetch up to $5 - $10 CPM on banners
as the quality of traffic is through the roof

Let's do the math on a $5 CPM campaign.

Give the site the benefit of the doubt, and it receives 100,000 page views per month. At an astronomical $5 CPM (not really possible. Only hosting/medical/gambling/etc sites command this type of rate).

Now $500 a month give or take.. It will take you 5+ years to get your initial investment back. That is of course if you completely sell out all ad campaigns, and manage to update the site daily to maintain current traffic levels.

Don't forget if you ever plan to get a $5CPM, or an even $2CPM campaign rate. You will have to bypass any third party ad networks and sell advertising inventory directly to domain related businesses. Thus more time. For what? To stop cash flow for close to the next decade?

who cares...you may be right....but with the traffic #'s the site has - and the fact that it is so widely known mean it will be sold for huge $$$

I am not saying I would shell out $10,000 for it....but I guarantee you someone else will....

There will be some wealthy guys who see that name for sale and will put up insane offfers....so yes - it is worth $10,000

This is not a ecom site.

The $ is in affiliate links and adverts and ppc adverts.

I think $2k

Sorry.

Love your site though.

PS: GT, the traffic in this case isnt easily converted into $, unless whois wants to prove me rong :)

From an advertiser's perspective, a site with 1,000 loyal visitors who come back every day (30,000 visitors per month) is worth much, much less than a site with 1,000 new visitors a day.

That's the stickiness paradox - the more sticky a site is (i.e. the better it is at generating return visitors) the more advertisers will be needed to spread the ad load, since once visitors have seen a given advertiser's ads a few times their CTR will plummet like a stone.

That's also, incidentally, why it's so hard (not impossible, just hard) to monetize forum traffic: because it's the same people coming back again and again and again.
