Why do people make "PM sent" posts?

Forgive my ignorance, but why do people post "pm sent" posts?

I imagine that not everyone has pm email notification, so that would be one reason. Are there any other?

Like upping their post count? I wonder if anyone ever posts "pm sent" even though they haven't pm'd anything.

I guess that it also shows that you have domains in a certain niche, so that's useful too.

but most do it, to let the Op of thread know to expect a personal message in their inbox.


if it's a sales thread, a potential buyer may not want to post their offer in the thread.

if it's a domains wanted thread, the OP may not want members to post the actual names they are submitting for review.

Sometimes it is just to create a time record of a message sent in regards to an offer or request in a thread..

The other thing is, I often wonder why people send PM`s, when they could just make a post. :smilewinkgrin:

Why post what you bought/sold the domain for? I don't like what I bought my names for public record.

That's why when you see fixed offers (I.e. domain1.com, domain2.com, etc. $250 each) people will post "domain1.com sold" (obviously for a timestamp to claim), send a PM/funds, then go back and edit their post to ".....".

I've always wondered why forum users waste an entire post on a thread with "PM SENT". If I sent a PM to the TS, what good does it do to tell the whole forum about it ? The TS will get my PM and if there are two similar offers received around the same time by the TS then it is the date stamp on the PMs sent that decides who won, and not the time of the post on the thread, think about this...

I'm starting to believe some do it to increase their post count lol or they simply love to see their username dispayed next to posts

If the TS has his mailbox full or he chooses not to receive PMs then the only option is to post the thing on the thread. And if it's the TS who's saying "By PM Only" w/o enabling receiving PMs then it's his loss

And I agree that what I buy or sell on DNF or anywhere is between the other party and myself, and not anybody else's business. Let alone what I sold a name for or what I paid for a name

Just to subscribe to that thread, in case buyer makes any updates about what he wants, and to not re-send multiple pm with same names to the buyer.

@angel69, yes there is a timestamp in the mailbox as well, but let's say for instance there was a fixed price of $500. Now you have posted "sold, pm sent" reply and there is a public record of the timestamp to name and shame the seller if it's not sold to you. JMO
