Why do some members have negative sounding user names?

Have you noticed some forum users with the alarming usernames such as **** who posts a lot with the marijuana plant icon and who also refers to drugs in some posts? I contacted him once about a name he was selling but broke off talk upon thinking about negative marijuana connotation. Also, the Newbie named **** He is offering a name I would normally consider making an offer on but what with him being new and not wanting to deal with a possible real 'hacker' I never bothered to ask about it. Why in the world do they select negative sounding user names anyway?

That may be so but I still get negative connotations when talking serious business with someone like that. If it were a Ringtones or Games forum then of course it would not be an issue to forum users.

Yeah, I guess we all have to deal with this. Remember when you first saw an ear ring on a man in the 80s? Now those young men have become middle or even senior managers. It's a (sub-)culture thing, people now are more comfortable relating themselves to negative connotations, as the clean and tidy bubble has bursted, and we're all living in a highly diseased world. This is how the younger generation sees this world; and there's no shame to be a sick person: we're all sick. AND you're old. LOL!

Well... You have a couple of options. You can choose not to do business with "Stoned" or get a great deal because him / her is "Stoned". It is your option.

Ever consider how many adverts appear not to make sense, wonder what on earth that has to do with the product, aggitate over the apparant nonsense? Then later think how much it's had you thinking about the advert - see where they are going? Maybe it's something similar.

Doing business on the Internet has its advantages. You can create a very professional business persona on a shoestring budget. On the other hand you can create a really screwed up image if you don't think it through.

The ability to do business from a distance may be a blessing. If MediaHound looks anything like his avatar, I'm not sure I could deal with him in person!

Have you seen the TV commercial for Pepsi Edge? They advertise half the calories of Coke! What about half the calories of regular Pepsi??? Or the same as C2? Unless they consciously intended it to strike people the way it struck me, so they would remember and talk about it, I just don't get it.

I am starting to feel like advertising is targeting an age group younger than mine. It's an unfamiliar feeling for me, and a little bit unsettling.

What's so wrong with cannabis (marijuana) exactly? Rhetorical question ... don't want to start a debate about it here, but think about it; do some googling around

If the domain(s) you were seeking from him "checked out", then by all means why not ... and as another poster pointed out, dealing with someone stoned might yield a good deal :laugh:

The term "hacker" used to have more positive connatations, but the pop-media changed that ... you're thinking of "crackers" - hackers that cause intentional damage, etc. A true hacker will only test things; look around and do no intentioal harm. Many of the top technology companies were started by folks who were "hackers" ... Microsoft, Apple, etc.

With that said, of the two user names, I'd personally be more concerned about the one named "hacker" given that known security weaknesses of domain name registrations, etc...

The "stoned" person ... he's likely harmless and likely despirate to sell at a good price to help finance his next dime bag LOL!

p.s. I run one of the biggest cannabis related sites - cannabis.com so I'm a bit biased when it comes to the names ... anyone named "stoned" is ok in my book LOL!
