Hello all,

It's been a while since I attempted to catch an expiring .com, and I have no idea how best to go about it these days. The name I'm after is in redemption period and is registered with moniker.com - It's quite an obscure name, and I can't imagine there would be anyone else going after it.. Would a Godaddy backorder suffice?

Thanks in advance,

Syd.

Thanks DCG - I found the 'Drop Catchers and Expired Domain Discussion' section and think I've sussed it.. This forum has grown since I was here last :)

yep... DCG is right Godaddy back orders wouldn't be able to catch a fish if it jumped in their boat.

Since the name is in redemption it's fair game for all catchers. It's true that godaddy is a weaker dropcatcher, but if you anticipate there will be no competition it can be a cheap way of getting decent domains.

I've had luck with GD backorders.
Granted, they were domains that no one else backordered at Snapnames or Namejet.
GD backorders are good in the event you're unable to be at the computer around the drop time.

A Go Daddy back order is only good for names dropping at Go Daddy, they rarely catch anything at other registrars.

-=DCG=-

i've read about them not even being good for that... that other drop catches auction off godaddy dropped domains.

Just wanted to thank you all for the feedback and the wealth of info on this site - Snapnames got me the name and I'm chuffed. I was getting worried after reading mixed things about Snapnames.. Putting names that had a sole backorder on them into public auctions for quite a while - but nothing of the sort.. they got me the name, notified me straight away and it's in my account - Happy Syd :)

Godaddy is very good at getting drops when no one else backorders the same name.

Hi ksinclair,

I just figured that by the time you've discovered whether anybody else is after the same name - it's too late.. Suppose it's just a question of how much you want the name.. I really wanted this name!

Cheers,

Syd.

I was attempting to use dry humor. I dont think godaddy BO is competitive but like somone said above, its a nice way to get the name to beat out those who will be trying to hand reg it after the drop. If you really want a name you reserve it all over. If you get it at namejet or pool etc and no one else bids, it only costs $60. Not too bad if its a name you really want.
