Escrow is protection from someone taking the money and never delivering the product.

If the domain is stolen and the original victim/owner find out and wants it back, the domain will be taken away from you and you could be out the $ you paid for it.

The domain was his but he sold it to his friend, who now has listed it one eBay.

Now the domain name has been listed in another auction under yet ANOTHER ebay name with 0 feedback. The fishy factor just keeps rising on this one.
