wtf, are all domainers absent-minded some times, or just some of us all the time?

I'm not sure but I may be losing it in my not so old age. For the second time I realized that I have been advertising a domain that is not mine. I finally figured out why I have not been able to get statutory.info indexed. I don't own it! I checked my account today and it says statutorylaw.info.

I know I have offered this name to many of you looking for .info. perhaps no one bothered to check that the domain resolves to a website and not a parked page (hell, i never did)

I hope that no one mistakenly thought I was trying to sell a domain that was not mine under false pretense. but hey if there's something hanging off my nose and i don't know about it I would hope you'd at least point it out to me so i can wipe it off!! :D

anyone care to commiserate and tell about something absent-minded you've done with domains or domaining?

I made a site, several pages all based on the domain (a general keyword.org).

Spent hours on it, got it all up and running, uploaded it and thought it was set.

A week later I check, domain won't resolve, I get my hosts' 404 error. Huh.

Check FTP - it's all there.

A few hours later I realized I uploaded it to the wrong folder so I had this great site for domain.org but to get there you had to go to completely-unrelated-domain.info...

i dont know, let me check that with my administrative secretary and i'll get back to you ... haha, no wait, that would be me. :D

actually its likely due to the fact that when i first started i was using notepad to keep tabs on everything. I probably regged a bunch at 4 in the morning and got one mixed up .. i am since migrating over to another platform :D

I've been building a website fiddles.mobi.

Great site!

Couldn't figure out why the site wasn't up after I set the servers.

Guess what?

Don't own it!

I have Fiddled.mobi

Had to redo the logo.

Oh, well.

Oops. Whatcha gonna do.

I once tried to sell a LLN.com and three times in the same thread the owner kept saying he owned it. I thought he was screwing with me until I realized I didn't own it. Oops :-)

Ed - If I tell you a few domains and convince you that you own them, will you try and get them listed in search engines :-)

I've been negotiating with a Sedo buyer for a few days and finally settled at 700$ for the domain. Then i went to Snapnames, to check the registrar for the domain and when i logged in to the registrar i realized it wasn't there. It expired 8 months ago (dead email -> no message before expiration), and somebody took it 2 months ago. Even more, the current owner is off to Pakistan for 3 months (according to his "business partner"), and has fake whois email.

same happened to me a few days ago:D I was checking the plural version of a name that I own, and to my surprise I owned that one as well. I totally forgot that I regged it a few months back

I just realized this morning that a few in my list I didn't own anymore.

Also, I jumped when I saw a domain that I liked some up in my Pool.com notification.

I almost put in a bid for it, then I realized that it was one I let drop a month ago. :)

Pretty bad for the economy if we have to let our own domains drop so we can buy them back eh?

Yes, it's a loophole to get a free renewal on your domain. Let it expire before you pay so when it drops you only have to pay $60 for it but that comes with a free renewal!

I was once negotiating 2 deals at once, late at night when I had been working all day and was dead tired. I was selling one lo $x,xxx domain and one mid $x,xxx domain. I ended up pushing the lo $x,xxx domain to the one who paid for the mid $x,xxx domain and the other way around. Luckily for me, both of these buyers were professionals and they quickly pushed the names back to me .. Not a big deal really, but my point is that everyone does stuff like this all the time, it's called 'being a human'. :)

I submitted an offer on Sedo for what I thought was downloaded.com. The guy countered at $1,000 and I thought it was my lucky day. I immediately sent payment and requested transfer. After a couple of weeks waiting for the transfer I realised my error - I'd purchased dowloaded.com. LOL - live and learn, the joys of being dyslexic....

Hehe, this is a classic! (As are many stories posted in this thread). I just like the fact that this domain had expired, there were fake e-mail addresses, the owner is away in another country, and yet you still managed to agree a price for this domain ;) Lmao!

------

I've only messed up once - someone PMed me, buying a domain at BIN. Although somehow had beaten them to it. Anywhoo, this member (who lost out) was disappointed, although bought another domain off me for a slightly lower price. It came to pushing the domains to the new owners, and (naturally ;)) - I pushed the domains to the wrong people. The member who missed out before seemed really happy, but then I had to say 'Woops, sorry. Wrong domain. *Cancells domain push*' Heh :P
