closed www.f8e.com and other 3 letter / character domains, are they worth anything?

I have a handful of 3 character domains, for example: F8E.COM, 2D5.COM, etc. I did not think these were worth anything and listed a couple on eBay. I was suppressed by the aggressive bidding. Are these worth anything or is this the ignorance of ebay?

I understand the value of type-in, dictionary words and even true three "letter" domains. But what is the draw here?
