the domain that sold for $8k

YourMoney.ca is the newest channel offering for Canada's largest web portal. We reach over 85% of the Canadian online audience every month. YourMoney.ca will be the cornerstone of our portal's relaunch on September 1, 2009. YourMoney.ca is the Canadian version of Oprah's Money section without Suze Orman or Oprah. We are building a site for Canadian's who have limited knowledge of how to manager their own personal finaces. The site will be approachable and fun but we're still talking about money so there needs to be an air of trust about the brand. We can't wait ...

they are currently holding a logo contest with $500 price. Pretty big project.

Bell bought it.

Goes to show there is money in brandable domains and some end users will really overpay...

yup. there is the word "money" in mymoney.ca brandable domain :D

Congrats on Sale

Did you buy or sell the domain?

How is 8K overpaying ? people sometimes on here drive me crazy

YOU think it's worth that much, I don't think it's worth a fraction of that. That's the domain business. If that drives you crazy you are in the wrong business.

I had someone poking around inquiring about one of my websites today. He is offering $300 - I want much more. He doesn't want to. Should that drive me crazy? It's business!

It all depends on branding and who wants the domain. The domain "makeitright.ca" probably wouldn't have sold for $20 here but Mike Holmes uses "make it right" as a catch phrase so he paid what he wanted to pay. Businesses have timelines and they don't want to have to go through a haggling process so they pay what they budget for and sometimes more. Yourmoney.ca will become a brand and they paid for it. I might have paid $100 for it ;-)

I prefer 'mymoney' to 'yourmoney' as a brandable term. There must be more sites that start with 'My' as opposed to 'Your'.

I would rather spend "your money" then "my money". First thing I heard of was the ING commercials "and save your money"

Well said.

Value is dictated by the price the buyer is willing to pay, not what you experts have to say.

I like the name and it's possibilities a lot....

I think "your" will work very well for what they have in mind. They want to talk/advise you about "your money"
