is that real it'd be great if its real ALL publicity to any unknown extension is exposure to the extension,,with millions accessing it will make .US awareness overnight!! to think it detracts from the extension is to say the first porn sites detracted from .com..

That is pretty amazing - especially since the .com is for sale for $1450 (that is less than the price of lunch for MJ!). The WhoIs for the .US still shows it belonging to a woman in Elma, Washington who has it listed for sale. Wonder if a sale just happened and the WhoIs hasn't updated?

the plot thickens looks like they bought it cause it was registered in 2002 ,,they could have easily just registered .biz or .info or bought the .com for 1450 or why not all of them,,,one things for sure .us is on every major news site right now,,,,,

Looks like it is legit - Associated Press is reporting it now too and quoting Jackson's spokesman about the site itself! BIG boost for .US!

I would sure like to know what their thought process was when they went about selecting this domain. The .info - which is perfectly suited to news sites and is a global extension (befitting Jackson's global fame) was sitting there unregistered when they apparently bought the .US in the aftermarket and put the site on it. Wonder if they are thinking its adds a little patriotic sheen to the tarnished Jackson name? I've always thought that was one major positive about .US.

P.S. Someone also registered MJNewsUS.com!

P.P.S. I was just getting ready to put my usual ad for the sales thread together. I think this might be a good week to run .US again. :-D

duke what i missed and just found out is that mjnews.ORG was already owned by jackson back in 2002 ,,,,,,,,,,and what im perplexed about is not only could have they bought mjnews.com which on a sensitive topic as this is would be a safer bet , why now go with an UNKNOWN pick??

Of course, it helps but the problem remains .us and other ext rarely have type-ins from the public, the type-in's still most all go to the dot-com.

Often when I give someone my dot-us email address over the phone they either send the email to a dot-com address in error, or else ask what dot-us is? saying do I really mean com, or sometimes repeating like this example: domainnameUS.com adding the us to the name, and adding the com ext.

It's too bad the dot us registry has fumbled the ball so badly and barely advertised the extension in almost 2-yrs, apparently preferring to save money on marketing expense rather than make the ext more popular with the general public.

Those numbers should dwindle over time. I know of people who still don't know what Windows XP is.
