It's been reported that 2games.com sold for $20,000.

I was under the impression that domain names with numbers and keywords in them can't sell and aren't worth buying.

What gives?

don't believe everything you read.

This has been discussed recently in this section.

These sort of reports or rumors are baseless no stand value unless it's reported from a proper source.

I don't know if I'm allowed to mention the site but its a well known domain industry news site that publishes a weekly domain sales list.

Is this site full of it when it comes to domain sales numbers. I thought the site had a good rep.

This may or may not be true. One thing you will need to learn with domains is that many sales never make any sense. Seriously, I have scratched my head more than once over many domain sales in the last 5 years. How about business.la? It's a huge market, the buyers buy what they want. Some names might be worth more than we think but try to stick close to the domain name rules you'll see people mention in here and and you'll increase your chances of getting and selling more profitable names.

the reported sale may be true.

what I was refering to is....

don't believe what others have said about domains with numbers in them having no value.

depends on the word and the number combination, some can be highly brandable like the example you gave, 2games.com, so I'm not surprised if a company would pay 20k to use that name.

Lots of Numbers in domains in this weeks reported sales at DNJournal.com

0800Hotels.com $26,608 Sedo
2Games.com $20K sold by AfternicDLS
Casino777.net $20K Sedo
AC360.com $12,901 Sedo
Money4Life.com $4K AfternicDLS
7Million.com $2,088 AfternicDLS
10Steps.com $2,100 NameJet.com
Miss21.com $4,000 Sedo

Top100.net $6K AfternicDLS
529Plans.org $2K Sedo

Most if not All of these are End User sales, so keep that in mind. Some of these may also have Traffic, so that can play a factor as well.

Damn I used to own 2OnlineGames.com and 4FreeOnlineGames.com and let them drop...

the buying domains for unreasonable price i think is black money reallising to their bank accounts its really god business.

Yeah , it's really possible - the first thing which came to my mind

2games.com is very brandable. I like it if im looking to make a splash and have alot of money to promote on the site with a unique idea.

I'm sorry to say this, but as a newbie, I didn't understand what you were saying.

Can someone translate for me?

Thanks,

Victoria

I'm not a newbie and don't get it either.

2games - the value could have been based also on the traffic.

what they are alluding to is;

money laundering

but everyone who buys domains is not a domainer, they don't think within the same discriminatory ways that we do.

therefore they can see value in places, where some of you won't even look...

Money laundering? LOL.

Really Biggedon is very right here. The world of domains is much much bigger than the world of domainers. And a domain that holds no value for someone, holds an immense value for someone who will use it.

Larger your perspective, don't think in boxes people!

I agree with this person. I have had ppl look down their noses at me at some of the domains that I have and then I realized that these were domainers just as I was and they were looking at the big ticket items. Think bigger than the word domain and you'll be in for some might fine treats.

When hydrogen replaces oil as the primary fuel in cars and in fact even before then....as we start gearing up for a new hydrogen energy economy we will see many domains with "H2" in them....it will start in less than a year from now imho.
