Wealthy Chinese pay-up for things with the numbers "888" in them... "888" is the Chinese lucky symbol... there's a documented sale for well over $200,000.00 for a phone number stacked with 8's...

There's also been numerous high priced sales of cell phone numbers stacked with 8's in China.
In fact, a real estate company I use to work (in Vancouver BC... theres lots of Chinese in Vancouver) bought a phone number for our office that was stacked with 8's... and some of the Chinese builders we use to deal with, use to try and change the street adresses of the homes they built to include as many 8's as possible.
BTW... did you know the Beijing Olympics this year commence on Aug 8/08 = 8/8/08 ... which is why some refer to the 2008 Beijing Olympics as the "888 Olympics".
