Hello everybody... it's time to finally join this discussion :)

.... you might all know me as '3dDomainNames' from a few other forums and blogs from around the web... i have made some pretty good friends along the way and some .. well.. not so great.... a few of both already exist in this thread so let me just start by saying .. 'sorry i'm here' to those who don't like me .. and a big 'WHAT"S UP!!' to those that do :)

I'm a latecomer to the world of domaining - i'm a designer and seo guy by trade, so i do have a very fine understanding of the value of exact search domains and their place on the web. I have made some really good purchases along the way to some very questionable ones ... many of the more questionable names i have were registered in the earlier days of my entering this market. I have accumulated a ton of domain names now from 3d, to holo to AR to gesture to solar... safe to say i'm into future domains...

Domaining was never supposed to be something i was going to do or even aspired to do... but the more i read about 3d, the more i jumped in. I bought a handful of names at a time, and then another handful... again and again... i am very familiar with the idea of saving your money and buying one good name, but it just evolved into this massive group of names because i it was $7 here and $7 there... with that said, i am definitely guilty of buying more than i can handle and i regret a bunch of the names in my portfolio... not so much for the dollar value - we all pay our tuition somehow - but more for the perception of being a noob..

... i think i have come a long way since those earlier days and feel much more confident in myself and the way i assess names now... i still have MUCH to learn and am fully aware of that, but that does not mean that my foresight for 3d or other future names is not one of value.. i have been researching this technology (among others) for a long time now and can add a whole lot to this discussion and maybe even educate a few of you on some great things to come.

so with that said...
... i basically aimed a little more towards the 'conceptual' end of the 3d market... yes, a little more of a gamble then cut and dry 3d Product names, but i couldn't stop thinking about how 3d would be applied to the web... i envisioned the real estate market showcasing 3d walkthroughs in stereoscopic 3d... and the dating industry featuring 3d personal ads (I may not own 3ddating.com, but i probably have the best 'secondary' 3d dating names anywhere)... and 3d shopping .. but not 'virtual shopping' using cad software.. again, i mean stereoscopic 3d stores.... the idea of booking a 3d vacation online seemed way too good to be true - LOVE the concept of 3d travel in full s3d!!.... the chat world is primed for real 3d with the inclusion of 3d webcams and chat worlds... consider how great the education industry will be in real 3d... think of things like 3d history lessons or 3d science classes... o man .. AWESOME!!!!... the medical industry is another industry that sets standards across most new technologies and 3d is no different... 3d porn?.. well.. haha .. i think we all see the value in that industry about to...um .... 'blossom' :) ... so this was how i envisioned 3d and how they would effect the web, thus the power in the '3d' domain names.

Why would there be a need for a domain name that has '3d' in it?
because these websites will require an IDENTIFIER to separate themselves from the standard 2d sites... not everybody will want a 3d site and not everybody will feature a 3d site... you can prorbably even make the argument that '2dDomainNames' will have as much value in the future as '3d names'... crazy thought, i know, but not out of the realm of possibility.

...so...

i look forward to adding to this post and the many others that will follow this hot trend.
thanks for having me all :)

Nice post Johny. Welcome to the discussion!

@Giles, I own 3d-Desktop//com. I checked with adwords keywords tool and found that the phrase "3D Desktop" gets 33k+ exact searches. I guess those searches are related to the 3D desktop backgrounds/wallpapers/screensavers.

Check these images:
3dw_desktop_descrpts.jpg

bumptop-desk2_610x461.png

Now with the launch of 3d desktop (hardware), how much should I get for this name?

Nice name, its a pity about the hypen, same with all my hyphenated names lol

I think you will have to wait and see where it goes and how popular it becomes. If it really takes off, the name will certainly be worth something, even with the hyphen.

I cant really give you figures though?

3D Content Is King at Giant Tech Show

Most observers agree that more content is needed for 3D to take off in the living room. An important part will be self-generated, Panasonic said Wednesday at the Internationale Funkaustellung (IFA) trade show in Berlin.

At IFA, Panasonic showed its upcoming HDC-SDT750 3D video camera, which will allow people to shoot their own 3D home movies, Panasonic said.

The HDC-SDT750 uses a detachable lens to be able to shoot in 3D; when the lens is removed the camera can record in ordinary 2D using its standard lens. The camera will be available in October, and Macworld has reported the price will be US$1,400.

More 3D movies on Blu-ray will of course also help, and in time for the holiday shopping season Panasonic will be able to bundle its products with the mother of all 3D movies, James Cameron's "Avatar," it said......

Good news that it's chugging along a good speed!!!

IFA SPECIAL: Sony boss says 3D is progressing 'faster than predicted'Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer has described the adoption of 3D as being 'faster than predicted'. Speaking at a pre-IFA press conference, he said that after its best three months in the last few years, Sony was ready to 'drive innovation which is the lifeblood of our relationship with the consumer.'
With the entire press conference being filmed in 3D and projected on a giant 280-inch LED screen, Stringer introduced clips from 3D movies, games and sports events, plus live performances from internationally acclaimed classical pianist Lang Lang and techo act Genki Rockets. Emphasising Sony's complete 'lens to living room' solution for 3D production, Stringer said 'Sony is aggressively blazing the trail in every aspect of 3D... and is committed to developing new 3D applications' - such as the prototype 'holographic' display previewed by HCC last year, which 'could offer 360-degree movies and games'.

With the presentation concentrating on 3D movies, software, cameras, camcorders, and even VAIO laptops, there wasn't a great deal of emphasis on home cinema products; but Stringer did mention the VPL-VW90ES Home Projector, and STR-DA5600ES/3600ES receivers, of which more elsewhere.
The news comes as Sony anounces a deal with the UK's biggest cinema chain, VUE, to put Sony 4K 3D projection systems in 670 UK screens.

I have a whole bunch of nice 3D names I am selling in these extensions, I am trimming down my portfolio to buy a very nice .COM name

.COM
.NET
.US (name like 3DChannel.us, 3DPlayers.us, 3DRecorder(s).us, 3DHomeCinemas.us etc)
.CO.UK
.TV

PM me if you want to see the list..

NEW YORK, Sept. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at New York City's Arthur Ashe Stadium where the U.S. Open is being broadcast in 3D TV for the first time, Panasonic announced it will establish a new 3D Innovation Center in the U.S. this fall. The Panasonic 3D Innovation Center will focus on engaging with the entertainment and broadcast communities to enhance 3D production technologies and work flow and foster collaboration with industry partners to develop new applications for 3D technologies.
The new Panasonic 3D Innovation Center will be based on the campus of Panasonic Corporation of North America in Secaucus, NJ. The Center also plans to create a branch in the Los Angeles area to facilitate collaboration with the entertainment industry. For more than 15 years, Panasonic has maintained an R&D facility, Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory, in the Greater Los Angeles area for the development of entertainment-related technologies and ongoing liaison with major studios for the development of the 3D Blu-ray Disc format.
"Panasonic foresees the expansion of 3D technology into nearly all aspects of the entertainment electronics industry, but we also see it being applied in a diverse range of other industries including healthcare, education, and beyond," said Joseph M. Taylor, Chairman and CEO of Panasonic Corporation of North America. "It is only a matter of time before 3D becomes an essential element in the operations of many major enterprises and the new Panasonic 3D Innovation Center will work to support that process." Like the 3D Innovation Center that is already operational in Japan, and the Panasonic European 3D Innovation Center that was announced this morning in Berlin, the mission of the Panasonic U.S. 3D Innovation Center will be to serve as a platform for developing alliances and partnerships with companies that are exploring how to apply 3D technologies in their own operations. With the aim of promoting innovation, the Center will also serve as a forum for ongoing communication with local 3D stakeholders in all industries to share 3D content, exchange ideas and establish best practices for creating and delivering 3D services

Just addressed an area of my portfolio that i have been really wanting to improve on - the marketing and advertising of Holographics to the public.

The one industry that will never go quiet in any recession is advertising and marketing... it's what this planet is built on and requires the most to make it in todays business. With holographics and holography peering around the corner, there will be a whole new world of branding and terms to use, and for those who are not in the know on such terms, perhaps a few of these will steer you in a direction to find others.

With that said, these names have been haunting me for a while and it was finally time to make them mine.

• 3dRetailDisplays.com
• 3dAdvertisingSystem.com

• HologramExhibit.com
• HologramExhibition.com

• HolographicExhibit.com
• HolographicExhibition.com

• 3dHolographicAdvertising.com
• HolographyAdvertising.com
- (probably the only real questionable one of the bunch)

3d Retail Displays:
Here is a great example of how holographics can and will be used for store fronts, among other:
• ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zc76sypeYvk&feature=related

3d Advertising System:
which is similar to ‘HoloPod’ … very cool stuff… these are already being used in select places around the globe, but you can see one of these here:
• ---> http://www.wonderworks-media.com/adpod.html

Holographic Exhibit and Holography Exhibition... well, they tie in very nicely with the video i showed you from my last post above (with the DJ)… these will be very big and entertainers from all walks will be thinking of the greatest ways to implement them into their stage shows, i assure you.
Here is just a great site that covers most of what i just spoke about with a ton of great uses for holography and holographic advertising:
• ---> http://www.activ8-3d.co.uk/

The WOW factor in Holographics and Holography is unquestionable and destined to be bigger then anything we have ever seen... it will be the line in the sand that says “we are finally In The Future”

…. Feedback on these names is always appreciated
Enjoy the news and the clips :)

**Extra special thanks to my brother Chris for the godaddy gift certificate that bought these :)

Hey JohnyV, I brought some holographic names, but I am not sure if I am going to renew any of them, to be honest I am starting to think that I really suck at choosing domain names and perhaps domaining isn’t for me, I think that hologram marketing is probably the best out of the names you just regged, but like I say not that I think my judgement counts for much in this area, but even I am not sure about HolographyAdvertising.com, if it was hologram advertising that might be good but Holography I am not so sure. My hologram portfolio consists of the following:

hologramprojecting.com
holographicreality.com
holographicprojectors.net
holographiccomputer.net

But as I said earlier in this thread I am trying to drastically cut down my mad cap portfolio and am not sure if I am going to renew any of these hologram names, if you or anybody else thinks they are worth keeping please let me know, like I say I am grateful for any advice as I don’t think I am ever going to be much of a domainer, never mind I will have to find something else I guess. I must say though I do find this future technology thing very interesting if nothing else, especially holograms they are super cool.

Study tracks concerns about 3-D TV sets

By David Bauder, The Associated Press

NEW YORK, N.Y. - A study about consumer attitudes toward 3-D television found many who were less interested in the technology after they actually experienced it.

Still, 52 per cent of consumers who tried out 3-D televisions said it was a better experience than they had expected, according to a study conducted by The Nielsen Co. for the Cable & Telecommunications Association for Marketing. The study was released Thursday.

"There is a lot of interest in 3-D TV but there are barriers that you have to overcome to make it a successful experience," said Char Beales, president and CEO of the association.

Aside from the cost of buying 3-D sets at a time the technology is just becoming available, the glasses required to watch them are a major hindrance. Fifty-seven per cent of people surveyed cited the glasses as a reason they were not likely to buy a set. Nearly nine in 10 people worry that it will constrain them from multitasking while the TV is on, the survey said.

It suggests that the true breakthrough for the technology won't come until sets are developed that allow 3-D viewing without the glasses, Beales said.

The percentage of people who said they were interested in buying a 3-D set during the next year went down when these willing consumers were brought in to see how it worked, Nielsen said.

People are also concerned there is not enough 3-D programming available yet to make a purchase worthwhile.

More than three-quarters of people surveyed said 3-D viewing is best-suited to special events like sports or movies than regular TV viewing, the survey said.

Seven in 10 regular gamers expressed interest in playing games in 3-D, Nielsen said.

Nielsen conducted focus groups and a survey of 425 randomly selected people who answered questions and watched a 30-minute highlight reel of 3-D television. The margin of error is plus or minus 5 percentage points.

KBX, I'm glad you think so too

Its not just TV's that have been relaeased - 3D Cameras, Camcorders, Laptops, Players and Recorders are out as well. Although not in every household yet, I feel its only a matter of time before they become mainstream, especially once prices drop.

Thanks KBX, I certainly plan on doing that, its just the waiting I hate lol

I think it will before that...2030 I mean. I think in the next 2-4 years it will really pick up and then within the next 6-8 years for sure, it will be everywhere.

Time Warner Cable to serve up 3-D HD movies on VOD

Time Warner Cable's West Region will be offering its subscribers 3-D HD movies in on-demand mode starting on Tuesday.

The first wave of movies will feature content from Warner Bros.' library, including "Under the Sea," "Nascar 3-D" and "Journey to the Center of the Earth."

To watch the 3-D content, customers must have a 3-D television, compatible 3-D glasses and a 3-D-capable HD converter connected via HDMI.

A spokesman for Time Warner Cable said this morning that the cable operator will be launching a 3-D category within HD movies on VOD in most of its markets later this month.
