Was surprised to find 3DPLASMA.TV and .INFO still available, seem to be keyword rich so grabbed them.. (If I start optimizing them now, they may do alright in the SERPs for "3D plasma tv" and "3D plasma info" once 3D Plasmas go on sale.)

Also picked up
3DACTIVE.NET
3DACTIVE.TV
ACTIVE3D.TV
PASSIVE3D.NET
PASSIVE3D.COM
PASSIVE3D.TV

Growing Momentum for At-Home 3D

3D movies generated over $1 billion at theatrical box offices worldwide this year, and when a movie is projected in both versions, the 3D showings typically bring in more than double the revenue of the regular screenings. So next year both Sony and Panasonic plan to introduce 3D-capable HD TVs for the mass market, using the polaroid glasses. Studios hope 3D can lift the sagging home video market the same way it has pushed up box office receipts. The initial cost of 3D sets may be about 20% higher than normal sets of the same size, but costs should fall in coming years. One analyst sees 3D-ready TVs in 28 million to 46 million homes worldwide by 2013.

100 Millionth Moviegoer Experiences RealD 3D

DJ Press Release Wire
6:11 PM (GMT-05:00) Eastern Time (US & Canada) Dec 14, 2009 Over $1 Billion Generated in Box Office at RealD-Equipped Theatres RealD 3D Cinema Platform Includes 19 of the World's Top 20 Exhibition Circuits

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- RealD, the global leader in 3D technology, today announced that more than 100 million moviegoers have experienced films in RealD 3D worldwide. Having started today's digital 3D revolution four short years ago with the release of Disney's "Chicken Little," 24 films have been shown in RealD 3D generating upwards of $1 billion in box office from RealD 3D-equipped screens.

"Reaching the 100 millionth milestone in such a short period of time shows studios, exhibitors and moviegoers around the world have embraced RealD 3D for its premium entertainment experience," said Michael V. Lewis, Chairman and CEO of RealD. "With our worldwide footprint tripling this year alone and the packed line-up of films coming out in RealD 3D, we're excited to continue to build on this revolution in cinema."

By far the world's largest 3D cinema platform, RealD has continued its accelerated growth tallying a 200% increase in its worldwide installation base for the 2009 calendar year. The RealD 3D platform counts among its partners 19 of the world's top 20 exhibitors with an industry-leading 9,500 screens under contract and 4,800 screens installed in 48 countries with 300 exhibition partners.

Added Joe Peixoto, RealD President of Worldwide Cinema, "Our hundreds of exhibition partners around the world are the foundation of our success. We look forward to continuing to deliver the industry standard in 3D so audiences can experience today's RealD 3D phenomenon."

A fundamental shift to the cinema business, and a driver of this year's record cinema box office, RealD 3D-enabled locations have delivered over 3x the per screen box office and 2.5x the per screen attendance of the same film in 2D.

This year alone blockbusters including Disney's "A Christmas Carol," Twentieth Century Fox's "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs," DreamWorks Animation's "Monsters vs. Aliens" and Disney/Pixar's "Up" have all earned over $100 million on 3D screens. There are over 50 films slated for release on RealD 3D encompassing all major studios, and more announced regularly, assuring the exponential growth of the RealD 3D platform.

"So next year both Sony and Panasonic plan to introduce 3D-capable HD TVs for the mass market, using the polaroid glasses."

Now that the theatrical release of James Cameron's Avatar is only hours away, the Blu-Ray Disc Association has announced the final release of the Blu-ray 3D specification....

"A BD-3D player will be able to be hooked up to any display and output three dimensional imagery, the BDA said today"

Seems strange that Sony would create a 3D spec that only requires a player and not a new display as well.

I think there's more to this... time will tell.

http://www.thewrap.com/article/3d-blu-ray-format-approved-11677

As the wild anticipation surrounding Jim Cameron’s 3D “Avatar” heightens, a milestone has been reached that will help bring theatrical-quality versions “Avatar” and other 3D studio titles into the home.

The Blu-Ray Disc Association—a consortium of leading companies including Sony, Panasonic, Philips, LG and Samsung—on Wednesday announced technical spec for a standardized 3D Blu-Ray format.

Totally agree with Vijaya, I brought 3D related domain a short while ago,
Ok its a .TV extension (3DDVD.TV)
But it does have 69,200,000 Google related searches. sort of started to develop it, But got side tracked with other stuff.
But I'm dam sure its got to be worth more than the £20 i paid for it.
I guess the question is are .TV extensions any good.

Oddly enough I am offering up a decent 3D .net domain in the $1 auction section and not a single bite... I'm puzzled...

12.21.2009 — According to a recent survey from Quixel Research, 50 percent of consumers want 3D home theaters and about 80 percent have already watched something in 3D.
Quixel's second annual 3D study, "3D Displays and Content 2009,” (pdf) surveyed 1,000 HDTV owners to get their opinions on 3D technology. The data also shows consumers:
Are willing to pay for 3D glasses
Want to receive 3D programming from their service provider
Prefer to watch 3D content from their cable or satellite provider vs. buying Blu-ray/DVD
"Consumers not only prefer to receive 3D content from their cable or satellite provider, but they are willing to pay more for a 3D movie channel,” says Tamaryn Pratt, Quixel Research principal. “Consumers are very familiar with recent 3D technology and those who have seen a 3D movie in the [past] 12 months are interested in owning a 3D TV even if it requires glasses.”

The study also found the following:

3D Product Awareness: Seventy-eight percent of respondents have had a 3D experience.
3D Interest/Purchasing: Half of those surveyed are interested in watching 3D at home, with those who have seen a 3D movie recently more interested in purchasing.
3D Timing: More than one third of those surveyed expect 3D TV within 12 months
3D Content: A significant majority would be interested in changing their content provider in order to receive 3D content.
3D Opinions: Nearly two-thirds say 3D is a group experience.
3D Glasses: Consumers are willing to pay for 3D glasses but don’t expect to pay twice as much for two pair.
3D Brands: Comcast was in the top three trusted 3D brands along with Samsung and Sony.

interesting story about how the manufacturers of various types of 3d glasses are fighting for dominance:

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/28/technology/28glasses.html?hp

me, i seem to be putting my money on shutter glasses. i own shutterglasses.net (12,100 exact-match searches globally) and, as luck would have it, LCDShutterGlasses.com just became available. I'd looked at it very recently and it was taken.
