who are you to say this is not Rick's "secondary real estate" ?

the guy resales a lot of domains.... why not put up tons of mini-sites in the meantime rather than just plain ol parking.

Who is talking here about Rick' sites???...im talking in general....look at how many million dollar domains...are sitting either parked...or on some cheap minisite...

Exactly...Elliot....and u missed my point.......you did this on a SECONDARY.....not on your prime real estate.....this is my "LAZY" and "CHEAP" reference to those domainers.....the ones who build minisites on PRIMARY sites.......understand better now?

PS - no need for cursing....

My secondary name was better than many people's top names. Sort of why I asked you to name a couple of your best developed names for a comp.

Everyone always talks about how people should do other things with their names. It's easy to tell someone else how to manage their business when its not yours.

consider this...... maybe someone owns 100's of "million dollar domains"

HOW do you focus on all those 100's of great, potentially million dollar domains at once?

the answer is, you cant... and if you try, you will likely end up spreading yourself too thin, and many will look like mini-sites anyway.

OK...so..someone owns 100's of great potentially million dollar domains at once.....hmmm...ok...so that mean this somebody...has millions of dollars....so....this "LAZY"..."CHEAP" domainer does what??...builds minisites on these million dollar names....what i'm saying is...why dont you spend more $$$ developing these names if you have them??.....because....you are "LAZY" and "CHEAP"...make sense?

please do not tell me...that most domainers...are not "LAZY" and "CHEAP" when it comes to development.....

Two New Yorkers go to a bar.... :D

I think the person most notably missing in action is Mike who started the other thread. It'd be great to read his posts in a thread that makes sense ;)

it does not make sense.

it ALL comes down to focus. nothing else.

you say lazy, i say someone chooses not to WORK their ass off or spend money on something they are not focused on. real development takes time and dedication... there are no shortcuts.

telling someone that "just because they have the money" they need to spend it is stupid.

Short... not small :)

Same thing..:).....

anyways....good chatting..:)

real development takes time and dedication... there are no shortcuts.

exactly...then why so many minisites on million dollar names??

and the best shortcut.....if you don't have the time and dedication for real development???

be "CHEAP"...and "LAZY"...:)

ps - you said it yourself.....:)

no, not cheap and lazy.... a DIFFERENT area of focus, combined with doing something that is better than parking in the meantime. its a hybrid really.

you are looking at it from the wrong angle.

Elliot....not looking to bash your buddy Rick....i see you had very nice things to say about him.....anyways....that's my point...u did not throw up minisites on Lowell..Burbank..etc....nor did you try to get "cheap" and throw up a $250 quick BS site....you did it right....look...i've had many domainers approach me about developing sites.....some generic one word .com's.....and they all look for "cheap" development on these sites....this is what i can't figure out......do that on your 2nd....3rd tier names...etc....but when i see domainers look to develop a million dollar name with a $250 quick "cheap" minisite......that to me is "LAZY" and "CHEAP".....makes sense??

Tony,

You sell web design so I know how you must feel about this and I do see your point of view.

Building a mansion on every piece of beach is not realistic. I own over 100,000 domains now.

Nobody, me included, is trying to say that a mini-site is better than making a full business out of it.

The market I fill is to provide sites that will make people more money than if they were parked! That's it! This really isn't that complicated.

And as I've been saying all along, it also makes a whole heap of sense if you are planning on doing a big development on a name later. This is not like putting up a shack before a mansion. That analogy doesn't work. It's more like laying the foundation before you start construction. If you could launch your large site already having good ranking, you are much better off. If you decide to delay the project, you are still better off.

This is not a competition over who's designs skills are better. I serve a different market than you do. What makes us unique is that we have a huge staff, and the machine in place to pump these out on an assembly line. Someone does the graphics, someone does the text, two people over there doing link building, etc, etc. We build a ton of these every day. Our sales increase every month. Our customers are happy!

who are you to say this is not Rick's "secondary real estate" ?

Thank you. As they climb the serps they go up in value. If you are in the business of selling names as I do, it's just part of the job.

Rick,

I agree with you. My rant is that i just can't understand for the life of me....why some domainers with amazing portfolios...put up minisites on prime time names.......that's just me....because i know what i would do...and it wouldn't be minisites....but yeah....minisites have their place...and i guess to each..their own....

Very simple. They don't want to park. :D And it isn't the time for them to fully develop that particular domain yet.

You don't always have to put a mansion on prime beach. Sometimes you just want a public drink stand. Or a dock.

Really?..that's what you would build on a Malibu Beach front property that you bought and is worth millions?

:sigh2:

i dunno what you're smoking to make you think that you can maintain full scale development with 100's or 1000's of worthy domains.

but anyway, i want some of it... some of that NY diesel? eh? eh?

There are two things in this thread that really stand out to me, and even provide a chuckle.

On a serious note, this is what this thread and mike's thread boils down to this one statement:

Judging "how domainers should spend their time, money, and efforts".

Park, mini site, grand-slam full blown site - if its yours, do with it what you want to do, have time for, and can afford.

It's really just that simple.

And for the chuckle?

I realize I don't post here much but I think it does say 2004 for my first login, which probably makes me a newbie in a lot of circles.
