Why do all you guys keep griping about Pool, but keep doing business with them?

If the blind bid process is really that horrible: F 'em!

Don't do business with them anymore.

Do you need the domains THAT bad? Your Daddy doesn't.

Well I for one don't do business with them anymore, and never will again.

2-cents: I also never do business with pool anymore ...and, I have a $350 referral credit in my account but still don't bother with them! F'em, like D- says!

I would guarantee that their business is way off -as actnow suggests, and I am glad. It serves them right for being such an unscrupulous company.

Yah blind auction system has been the down fall of pool. I remember when I was bidding on webdesigntalk.com in the 2nd phase. I had no idea on how much my competitors were bidding!

Question: Please answer my questions without the canned response. How do I know there are more bidders than just me, and I'm not just bidding against myself and revealing to you what top price I'm willing to pay in the
next round? What transparency exists to protect the customer from
shill bidding on the part of another or Pool itself?

From what I see on the posts of other bidders lately is that all names
go to round 2 even if there is obviously only 1 bidder.

Answer: "Thank you for contacting Pool.com, we are pleased to assist you with your inquiry.

All domains acquired by Pool.com go through our two-phased auction process. Our system does not differentiate between one and multiple backorders for a domain.

The first round of this auction system is SEALED to protect our clients privacy, no information regarding bids or bidders is given out. Only in the second phase will you be able to see other bidders (but only as they place bids). In the Sealed Phase, if you do not enter a bid, one for $60 is automatically placed on your behalf. If you then choose to enter a higher bid, you are NOT "bidding against yourself" you are simply indicating that the domain is worth more than $60 to you. I am not sure what part of this system you find fraudulent, however please let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Pool.com's Two Phased Auction system is designed to maximize our client's privacy. During the first phase ( the "sealed phase") enter the amount you are willing to pay for the domain, if your bid is one of the top bidders then you advance to phase two (the "challenger phase"). In this phase only, you are able to see other bidders (only as they place bids however)."

Forwarded to me by a friend.

"It has nothing to do with maximizing our profits"

Sad really to see a good business model like Pool be taken over by greed. Making people bid against themselves in secret? Pool should be ashamed and never wonder why people hate them.

I have to continue to use them. I bought about $800 worth of .pw domain names that were listed in there "Domains For Sale" section. (They only gave me a store credit, no refunds from Pool you know. Not even if you have been tricked by them.) Well, turns out, .pw domains are not for sale at all. They cannot host pages but only others can buy email addresses on your domain.

They are blatantly mis-representing the .pw domains for sale and I hope that they try to sue me for libel so I can have a look at their books.

Too bad, Pool started out great.

They will NEVER be able to expand their business because their brand is shot. I do not trust them for many reasons.

LoL... At least they could read between the lines ;D

Of course, they will play dumb. They know their system is a huge fraud.

They are grabbing some good names. I use them for names I know will be competition for so I can give my best shot. They just grabbed f150.com. Anyone who bids over $100 in this one will receive a bag of poo in the mail. :santa:

Isn't there a private consipiracy forum out there for the top auction bidders to collaberate on auctions? Like 'I'll won't bid on this one if you don't bid on that one'

Nah, there isn't. All you need today is a fat wallet, and about $100k min for each name you proxy.

I've stopped using Pool because I think they are the "trigger finger" on the auctions. They get a "live" one and the price keeps going up. There is no way to verify buyers unless you track the name days/sometime weeks later in pulling a 'who is'. To me a high bid ='s a high bid ='s a winning bid .... not a second auction. Great, I just was the high bidder and have now been granted an opportunity to bid again??? I think NOT!

This is not even discussing their fledgling new Registrars that they assign the name to that cannot accomodate control panels, dns changes and in some cases will not give you access to the domain name you just paid for!

I devote 1 full day a week to getting "premium domain names" wins transferred back to my primary Registrar so I don't have names all over the planet and not know where they are. This is a very time-consuming and frustrating process.

At least working with Snap, there is telephone support in the US for questions. They have satisfactorily answered all of my inquiries where I thought foul play was running amuck.

The whole auction system is suspicious OR I just need to understand it better.
