Hello,

I recently ran a whois on "cali.net" and I found that it expired back in October of 1999! (look it up for yourself)

How come it is still in the database? Can a domain be on hold for so long??

Thanks,
-dm

There are no formal rules for when a domain name will drop.

Write to ICANN...

This is just ridiculous, I guess. I really hate NetSol. I mean, how long do we have to wait? 2 years? 5 years? Someone should do something about it.

Yeh this question should obviously be tested in court somehow. It would work well if you had a common law trademark or even better a real one and filed a suit against them claiming they were squatting your name. Think of the possibilities!

Do you know this for a fact, or are you speculating that they will drop because of the WLS?

My belief is that Verisign will not drop all names, but they will drop those with WLS subscriptions - or they will be sued.

There is still no reason for them to drop any name that's not WLS-listed...

ICANN will just say "contact the register that has the domain - we don't deal with the registration of individual domains" as they always do
