Just so you know this is a state prosecution. They had to justify this case already and wouldn't have brought it this far if they weren't going to push for a conviction imho. There's a lot of "cyber-crime" out there and there's no point wasting tax dollars going after a small conviction.

They will for sure get a felony conviction on this guy, I never indicated they wouldn't... All I'm saying he wont get much jail time like most of you think he will, Unless, as Focus pointed out, they try to make an example out of him.

I too doubt he's going to serve jail time, I could see a verdict of compensation + community service.
But we have a case of identity theft.
Isn't it a federal offense ?

Hopefully the attention this receives will get godaddy to actually make an effort to understand and assist in these issues, since their own crappy security means these thefts always seem to occur there and they never do jack...

so assuming that the new owner bought it in "good faith" back in 2007 and still owns it, will they take it away from him?
or will they go after the hacker... interesting for sure

I assume the original owner notified ebay and the final buyer that the domain was stolen.
So, they can not plead ignorance of the theft.

I suspect there will be a court case to recover the domain.

I will not speculate which way it will go.
Even though, logically it should be returned to the original owner.
