I don't think that type of domain would be appropriate for a Spanish audience, because it's in English.
Also, the singular is more appealing imho: a bank might want to own bank.tld
but with the plural (bankS) the options are more limited: a directory or a comparison site perhaps.
A bank (or THE bank) is not the same as bankS

Note that banco.es is owned by BBVA. Bancos.es looks like some MFA website.

In recent news, there is a lot of turmoil in Spain due to the persistent crisis and banks aren't exactly popular at the moment

Thanks for the input katherine. I agree that banco.es is more relevant and bank may be better, but Id still like to figure out the value for banks.es. Fact is english is the dominant language on the web.

The following english language .es have sold in the past year... Artdeco.es - $16,370 doctor.es - $2,550 free.es - $1,972 estate.es for $2,620 petshop.es - $2,654 etc...

I personally think that banks is better than all of these. Thoughts?

Just because there are several idiots buying crap domains doesn't mean all crap domains suddenly have value. Plus all those are singular - plural prices are very different.

That being said there are 110,000 exact monthly searches for banks in Spain in English. I'd hold onto it and wait for X,XXX-XX,XXX.

Appreciate the advice. Bottom line is that english language has value in .es tlds which is proven by the 110k searches.

I would be careful about equating search volume with domain value.
Too many domainers are giving it too much weight.
I dabble in ccTLDs quite a alot and I always put myself in the shoes of local consumers. Common English keywords are okay but less appealing when they are not everyday language.
None of the few English .es you've mentioned is developed. I would not be surprised if they turn out to be domainer acquisitions according to the greater fool theory.
OTH Free is a brand name, valid in pretty much any TLD imho.

I agree that search volume doesn't translate to domain value but it does prove relevancy.
