DNForum must become a closed community with verified members, no exceptions! There is too much at stake. And yeah, $1.2k for CLE.org, CBD.org and EWT.net is a deadringer!

Very good idea. Verfied by email address and credit card would be useful, OR eveb make Platinum and Exclusive members all verified and remainder unverified.

It is up to the individual DNF member if they want to do business with an unverified member or not. I too like the idea about making DNF a "closed" forum, but I understand if the admins do not want to take such a (dramatic) action.

domains were
Cle.org Cbd.org Ewt.net

sure they've been cheap, but not that cheap to suspect something...
I hope it works out for you and I realise hindsight is 20/20, but.....
all 3 show DNS as being at Ultsearch - Marchex aren't into punting their names.
A quick glance in the whois history shows they've been private, but with Ultsearch's DNS for years. And to cap it all cle.org in March and May had this Whois:
Domain Name:CLE.ORG
Created On:17-Jul-2001 01:17:59 UTC
Last Updated On:18-Jun-2007 07:28:16 UTC
Expiration Date:17-Jul-2008 01:18:00 UTC
Sponsoring Registrar:eNom, Inc. (R39-LROR)
Status:OK
Registrant ID:CCBA2C581B891905
Registrant Name:NA NA
Registrant Organization:NA
Registrant Street1:NA
Registrant Street2:
Registrant Street3:
Registrant City:Bellevue
Registrant State/Province:WA
Registrant Postal Code:98007
Registrant Country:US
Registrant Phone:+1.4252740657
Registrant Phone Ext.:
Registrant FAX:
Registrant FAX Ext.:
Registrant Email:[email protected]

That's quite a few red flags and as I say I hope it works out, but basic due diligence avoids this sort of grief.

Not at all. Anyone can pay to become a platinum member. He still doesn't have the "verified" label next to his username. Now it must be said that being "verified" doesn't necessary mean that it is 100% safe to do business with the person, but it do help a little.

we should analyze this:

the response from enom:
I'm very sorry to report that the names you had purchased through the seller on DNForum had no right to sell you the domain names. They had stolen the names from one of our account holders.
The names were returned to the domains legal owner when the illegal push was reported.

a push is allowed only once in 7 days
so the names were stolen at least 7 days earlier

and how can names be stolen from other enom account?

obviously we should not buy domains from someone who owned them only for several days (except newly registered domains)

i'm really mad about enom...
if the domains are stolen, then they can't lock them and still allow them to be pushed to my account?!
usually, once the domains are in my account, i should be the "safe" new owner...

btw, his last activity was at 8:07 am here.
i sent him a pm asking about that problem at 6:22 am.
so i guess he must have read that pm...

If I know you (or now that you are trading here a lot), I don't need any verification.

If someone has only one or five domains, he will not purchase an expensive membership, have any iTrader rating or do the verification, but I will still want to buy the domain from him...

If you're spending money on 3 letter com/net/org's (or any expensive domains) you really need to pay, unfortunately, to get access to Domaintools' Whois History or something similar.

Losing a $1k+ is not nice. At the end of the day anyone can get scammed, but basic due diligence really reduces that risk.

I just got scammed in a very similar way on NP last night....similar situation, Enom names, moneybookers, new member. thought i did it right, had names pushed and in my account, checked whois and sent an 'confirmation of intent to sell' email to the admin email listed and ONLY sent payment after this all checked out. names and email were received, payment sent. then today, i check whois to see if updated and not only is not in my name, its not in HIS name anymore either (was John BOLG) but someone else. i log into my enom account and they are simply gone. ZERO contact from enom about it to the effect 'the push is in question, names are being held/returned until clarified'----- nothing. I call them and they said the previous owner said they did not authorize this push, so they were returned. period. their hands are tied. they said they are looking into a wide-spread fraud case around this person. might or might not be the same as scammed stain79 but certainly scammed me so everyone Beware of this guy!!

admin email listed in whois on the names i bought was: [email protected]

and the moneybookers payment email was: [email protected]

beware! denver

He offered me $500 for CBD.org but when I saw that whois saying NA in every field and that he wanted to user moneybookers which can't be reversed I told him to buzz off.

I even sent a PM to admin to have them look into this guy, but I guess that couldn't find anything or didn't have time yet.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

We encourage everyone to become verified, for more info visit this link:
http://www.dnforum.com/dnfverified.php
We cannot force members to do this, it involves disclosing private information.
Regardless, it's important to do your diligence when buying domains. Check the history, contact previous owners. If its too good to be true, it usually is. Check best practices #5:
http://www.dnforum.com/bestpractices.php#5
Kind regards
