I was there probably 13 years ago.
Was impressed with the culture and buildings, but nothing about girls.
Still have a clay-made flute or what not as sovenir.

Seems much have changed!!

In the last 10 years the industry of porn make millions in Budapest...

Budapest was part of a planned trip for us as well.

We were going to Vienna and doing the Danube as well.

However, the recent dollar tumble has changed that.

Plus we now have a close friend in Prague that may sidetrack us from Budapest.

USD to HUF is now at 206, used to be 150 2 months ago. You won't be sorry to go to Prague, really amazing city, but you will be sorry for not coming to Budapest :) Btw, just as a sidenote about the crime allusions; there are two times less murders per capita and 6 times less rapes per capita in Hungary than in the USA.. Don't be fooled by some propaganda, Budapest is safe until you are not going to the worst district in the middle of the night wearing the most expensive jewelry..

Appraisal:

I was bidding on this domain and in fact was one of the top bidders *wink.

However, I did not bid you up because I believe the value is about 6K USD.

It's very nice domain and a capitalcity .net, however:

1. .net 's value , even for a Geo, is doubtful
2. Hungary is a small country and Budapest's population is one of the lowest amongst all capital cities in the world. The population has been falling since the mid-1980s (source: wikipedia).

Anyway, it's an excellent domain and I congratulation you for willing it.

Reseller: 6K
End-user: XX,XXX

Nice name. If it were mine I wouldn't sell it for anything less than 25k and I would be working hard on developing it. Good luck and have fun on your trip!

Thanks for appraisal.

Despite I don't agree with you. Budapest is one of top tourist destinations in Europe. Millions of tourist every year comes here to see it's beauty, they don't care about some population drop. I really don't get what city population have to do with travel popularity, or commercial attraction? :?:

It is normal thing big cities population is dropping in Europe.

Budapest is one of the largest capitals in the region, I think you are confusing it with Bratislava (which is also a nice city, but tiny, and population of just over 400k - Budapest has nearly 2 million..). 1.83 million avg. Google searches per month, high paying keywords (hotels in budapest $4,24), very well spent money if you ask me.

I agree. When we travel, we are the most un-tourist looking people you have ever seen.

We were no cloths with US brand names or college towns or that stuff you see here. Our shoes and a small backpack are the only thing that might give us away. We wear cheap Timex watches. The only time I show a camera is when it is a major tourist site and everyone has a camera.

We try to learn the native language but would not have time to learn the native tongue of Hungary. I think if we spoke German and Italian we would get by okay, but not sure.

As for dining, we typically pick out a place that is off the tourist trail and there is absolutely no one there speaking English. We find that this is most likely where the locals eat and have the best prices and the best food. If the local people eat there then it must be good.

Train stations are notorious for pick pockets and thieves. We never are alone or separated.

As for night life - we love it but again, we look for the local hang outs. We learn more about the culture and the people this way. We have also found this to be such a fabulous way to meet people who are just as curious as we are.

Only once in all our travels have we ever encountered any problems and this was in one of the main Piazzas in Florence, Italy.

As for crime, I take nothing for granted anywhere anymore. The USA has nothing to brag about except as you pointed out having more crimes - serious and deadly.

I used to go anywhere and anytime. I was notorious for going to the worst and deadliest parts of New Orleans. This was were the coolest art, culture, and food was found. I guess everyone thought I was a crazy white boy and left me alone.

Rather than lengthen our trip, maybe we can get Budapest in. I have been to southern Germany and Salzburg before. My wife had not. That is the only reason we had planned to go there. Eliminating that will be an option. Our starting point was Vienna. She may be sick of Mozart by the time we finish our stay there so Budapest can be back on the plans.

We are both big into art, culture, architecture. That is basically how we plan our trips.

We'll see. Everything is possible.

Prague-Cesky Krumlov-Vienna-Budapest are must-see cities in Eastern/Central Europe. You can rent car in Prague and take a trip.

As Pinturicchio pointed out it might be a good idea to rent a car. Driving from Vienna to Budapest only takes 2 hours, I'm doing it regularly. Prague - Budapest is 5-6 hours driving, and remember our speed limit is 130 km/h, but 143 km/h (89 mph) is still being tolerated. Bratislava - Budapest 2 hours as well, and it is in between Prague and Budapest. If you come to Budapest I can give hints on hotels / apartments / things worth to see.
Something different: I have a strong affection to Sarajevo since I've been there. I know its very far off from your plan (and from most peoples plan), but it truly is a gem, the European Jerusalem as some call it.

Great! Car rental is a great idea. We are so used to the rail system which is so impressive in Europe.

I have a great friend in Riga, Latvia that I would love to see but that is too much.

I need two things to happen - dollar gain some of its loses and my medical issues be stable enough for my doctor to allow me to fly. Hopefully the medical condition can me managed. However, the economy may not allow us to go until what appears to be now at least 2010 or later.

I have books on this region.

If traveling by car and going to these different places, what is the one language you would recommend to learn and use? I used to speak some Russian but that was at least 20 years ago now. I remember very very little.

Slavik perhaps?

I have been to Sarajevo when it was still Yugoslavia and Tito was in power and even before the Winter Olympics there. That should give you an idea of my age.

It was a welcomed sight and so different being my first trip to an Eastern Bloc country. It was the only Russian ally that seemed the one safe enough for an American to travel in. I was also in Libjuana but have no idea if that name even applies today with all the break up of Yugoslavia

I did not know that it was referred to the European Jerusalem. Now I will have to read about this.

Is this were the Crusades left and arrived from?

Back to the thread, a great name indeed. And easily monitized I would think seeing that it is already its own brand.

Yeah, because the mix of Synagogues, Minarets, Mosques and the Orthodox and Catholic Churches in one city. It must have been an amazing experience for you! The one language that you should learn is body language :) No, honestly, English is perfectly fine.. Some people here pretend to speak German or Russian, but very few of them are actually capable of communicating. The younger generation speaks English quite well in all the Eastern European countries, but at least they do comprehend the basics. I would just learn the most important words and the numbers from 1-10 in each countries language, should take about 10 minutes. Don't worry about the dollar: http://finance.yahoo.com/currency/convert?amt=1&from=EUR&to=USD&submit=Convert . You can travel quite cheap now.

Yes, the dollar is doing better only because we now have Europe and the Euro going into a recession.

NO problem at all with the body language. That is what usually gets me in trouble with the wife at my side. ;) I read it well but don't speak it as good as I could.

My Russian is bad now so I won't try to speak it. I work with a few doctors from Slovenia and other former Russian enclaves. They correct my Russian all the time but in a nice way. I think there are so many dialects. I learned "The Mother Land" way.

10k developed in current market. Good luck

Sorry but you probably don't know much about it. There are some methods for valuation developed domains (=websites), one of the main factors is profit. Then you can talk about value of developed domain.
