actually i planed to hold the domains for about 4-5 years, but if you make an offer i can't refuse, maybe ;-)

Yes, it doesn't make sense to sell domains that aren't going to be easy to replace unless cashflow is an issue. Do you get traffic on these?

Shame on the sports one's you didn't go for Cricket. That is a religion, and a form of virtual warfare, on the subcontinent.

well, if it's called email there of course...I have names like bhang.in and charas.in that are in the native language and will get type-ins for sure..we have yet to see what will really come of english domains in the .in ext.

The question about which languages will be used to type-in using this extension is a strong and valid point. These, however, are not native language in the sense that is what would normally be written. They are more accurately described as Transliterations, which may be used extensively or may be largely superceded by IDN, which actually represent the words in local characters. It is too soon to make a judgement and for the moment transliterations have the upper hand.

The Indian market is a very difficult one to judge. My quess is that English keywords will not predominate in India, but then if only 5% of the population type in English Keywords, if you have keywords like the above that is still huge.

Nice portfolio Dave. Congratulations !!

I remember applying for most of these domains earlier this year. And now I find out that all of them went in your portfolio :)

Good luck with these domains.

Simply amazing ... if things go right you'll have early retirement.

Instead of selling some of these names, perhaps you should
try to hook up with a company that can develop these into
rich content sites - you provide the name - they provide the
content - and split ownership of the business. This way you'll
keep part ownership of the domain and possibly have a regular
income source if the site does well. Good luck!

moxid - This is the way to go. Your portfolio is so extensive you will likely have media companies and investors interested in harnessing the collective power of all these names. There is more leverage in a rare collection and you have got that angle covered very well. An Indian company will want to enhance their presence. I would not be surprised to read about your sale in the 7-figure range within 1-3 years.

hi moxid,

well this looks like the most valuable dot-in portfolio worldwide, congrats.

At least 3 developed sites will give you an excellent return, there are so many good names in your portfolio, that 30 people could easily work on it.

Really a full time job for you ;-)

best regards and good luck

dude don't sell them..park them all..watch the stats and learn about your names and wait for the big fish in the sea.

list them ALL on sedo (if you have not done so already) you may very well be contacted by a large buyer there who will initially send you a very low offer...always respond back with your MAXIMUM price and see what they do...you might be suprised!

btw- what do you think of:

charas.in

&

bhang.in ?

Only a few .in , the rest are premium .co.in , about 200 - would certainly like to have the .in that Chris has but very happy with my current India portfolio

Bhang is a derivative of the leaf and flower of a female cannabis plant. It is used for making beverages and sometimes is smoked. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bhang)

Charas is the name given to hand-made hashish in India. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charas)

Thanks, that explains an awful lot!

...Cannabis spread from India to other parts of Asia, to the Middle East and then to Africa and South America, although some believe it may have originated independently in the latter two continents (Fort, 1969: 15)....

....marijuana was probably first used as an intoxicant in India around 1000 B.C., and soon became an integral part of Hindu culture (Snyder, 1970: 125)....

.....Cannabis is used in three different preparations in India (Snyder, 1970: 27). The first is called Bhang, comparable in potency to marijuana in the United States.

....It is made from the leaves and stems of uncultivated plants and blended into a pleasant tasting liquid concoction...

......The third and most potent preparation, charas, is similar to hashish or "hash" and is obtained by scraping the resin from the leaves of the cultivated plants. Hard blocks are pressed from this material which are converted for smoking.....

...The lower classes of India use either a few pulls at a Ganja pipe or sip a glass of Bhang at the end of the day to relieve fatigue (Grinspoon, 1971: 173)..

BOTTOM LINE IS, IN INDIA, THIS STUFF GROWS EVERYWHERE AND IS APPARENTLY CONSUMED BY JUST ABOUT EVERYONE. IT IS OF GREAT COMMERCIAL VALUE IN THE USA, BECAUSE IT IS A PROHIBITED SUBSTANCE. WHERE IT GROWS LIKE WEEDS, THERE IS UNLIKELY TO BE ANY REAL MILEAGE IN COMMERCIAL TERMS. WHY GO TO THE INTERNET WHEN YOU CAN GO TO THE BACKYARD???

Your sources are really bad. Bhang is lower in potency than Marijuana.
And lowerclass is not really hooked on Ganja or Bhang.

And it really doesn't grow everywhere. Its illegal to grow and possess it in India, same as in US.

Agreed Bhang is a beer-like drink.

I am sure Mocus will eventually put a website that will give a much more informed perspective.:cheeky:

I worked in Africa for many years. It was always illegal, but if you were interested it was readily available and did not command much a premium over any other produce. I have no first hand experience of India, but I should imagine the situation is similar. Technically illegal but enforcement of the law is unlikely, unless you are trying to do it on an industrial scale, because of the shear impracticality of doing it.

Yeah, you are right law enforcement is lacking if you do it in your backyard. I was born in India and spent 27 years there and have traveled extensively. And I would say that Ganja is as readily available in India as you can find weed here in Los Angeles. :-D :-D

Chris,
Good to see you here.
Right now .co.in has better stats over .in (stats based on domain traffic of the same name domains in our portfolio) .
.in will have better value in future.
I have already developed couple of domains for the Indian market.
www.Shop.co.in
www.Classifieds.co.in
www.Hotel.co.in
and planning to develop the following in next couple of months.
www.Employment.co.in
www.RealEstate.co.in

Wot,
In terms of traffic .co.in will be better than .in atleast for next 2 years.
