A developed .net, can beat the developed .com as well. Just as long as you practice good seo, and use lots of fresh, unique content.

A properly developed web site, that is. Avoid these "mass development" schemes that promise you the world cheaply. You get what you pay for. See great video here.

Disagree strongly with his statement that 5 or less page ministes are BS and have no real value.

Have seen numerous 1-5 pg ministes (including many of my own) which can easily pack as good or better targeted and helpful information and knowledge vs a large website which makes for a good visitor experience, especially dealing with niche markets and categories.

I am not necessarily talking about massdeveloped sites developed by a service in bulk for a fee but mostly referring to minisites you develop yourself one at a time. With that said, I can also say sometimes the massdeveloped sites can also deliver good value to visitors assuming they have well targeted content.

It is very easy to get a developed non-.com to beat out a .com - search engines are starting to not care too much over the TLD.

I've seen .infos beat out parked .coms

The definition of mini sites overrides the logic of full development, which includes 10 or more supportive pages, maps for SEO purposes, contact forms, interactive elements, databases etc. If monetization via adsense is what you want, then "mini sites" are what you're getting. Web site development is a science, not a slap-up contest.

Of course full large scale development is best but for those with neither the inclination or funds to do so WhyPark offers most all of the above for only $25-month or less for unlimted sites, including 10 or more pages if desired, very nice RSS Feed and a Newsletter, user comments, user submitted articles etc for each site, plus other important features including customization capacity and non-Adsense monetization.

Can beat? Easily. Even if your .net is a one page site you can beat .com anytime with a few things to keep in mind.

No brainer, developed sites win.

I'm developing most of my domains and use adsense, yahoo, etc as supporting income. I prefer to get local advatiser and add hotels/airfare reservation.

If you want to see it, drop me email.

Here is a new WhyPark site < link removed> which took roughly 30-min to setup and as mentioned by Acro in Theo's post #8 above meets or exceeds most all his requirements such as at least 10-pages and having lots of other cool developed site features such as RSS and a newsletter, etc.

i agree, i write a blog that gets significant clicks and lots of feed readers. many outstanding dotcoms lay fallow, parked pointlessly withoutcontent or traffic until doomsday.

Dave, I don't call parked pages developed sites. The same goes for WhyPark RSS feed smorgasbords. Example of a developed site is TGIF.com. It has content, information and not just a layout of several RSS feeds that offer little to the visitor, other than trigger related AdSense content.

Since I was a web developer before I got into domaining, I always find such threads and sentiments/queries from domainers a bit weird. No offence intended, just being honest :)

Development (when done properly) will nearly always win out over parking.

Parking is hated by Google et al, since parked pages have no content and just links to premium-paying advertisers.

Development (with real, unique content) is loved by Google et al, since developed sites provide real information to Google (et al)'s users.

Of course, if you have 1,000 domains then you can't develop them all overnight. And that's when parking can be useful - for a quick way to keep monetising your domains when you aren't able to develop them (or if they aren't great domains which consequently aren't 'ripe' for development)

Having said that, development should be chosen over parking if you have the choice.

And a domain's TLD will matter very little compared if the website has good unique content and is SEO'd correctly.

If Toys.com was parked, and CheapAwesomeToys.org was a brilliant, dynamically-driven content website, the latter would win out in Google.

OK, I forgot they can not be affiliate links even if closely related to the discussion? Is it OK to mention the url assuming it's non-clickable, or clickable but without affiliate code?
