Each of the major registries have status codes denoting where in the cycle a domain is:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLIENT HOLD (.org registry only): The domain is on hold and will not be published in the zone files for resolution.

PENDINGDELETE (.com .net and .org registries): A delete command has been issued for the domain. In the case of .com and .net names, the domain has been through the 30 day REDEMPTIONPERIOD status and will be deleted and become available for registration 5 days after the status was last updated. The .org delay has not yet been made public.

REDEMPTIONPERIOD (.com and .net registries): The domain has expired and will stay in this status for a period of 30 days from the status update. It will then move to PENDINGDELETE if the current registrant does not pay for reactivation.

REGISTRAR-HOLD (.com and .net registries): The domain cannot be modified or deleted. The registrar must remove REGISTRAR-HOLD status to modify the domain. The domain will not be included in the zone file.

REGISTRY-HOLD (.com and .net registries): The domain cannot be modified or deleted. The registry must remove REGISTRAR-HOLD status for the registrar to be able to modify the domain. The domain will not be included in the zone file.
