unless members can purchase contact lenses through their tv, I would say this domain isn't worth all that much......

the merger of tv and internet is under way.

i'd say on average i see @5 contact lens' tv commercials a day, this domain would do very well in that capacity.

This domain will do well with TV ad campaigns. I would hold on to this one.

Yes, I have to say I am with you on this one. The most valuable domains relate to goods and services that can be transacted online. OK, there is some value in goods and services that can be researched online, but frankly most people will always go to the High Street for Contact Lenses.

So, I gather contact lenses is not an excellent name?

Maybe it's the low Ovt Bid ($6.96) or Ovt Search results (405,808)

Sorry man, I am just basing this on another appraisal of yours earlier ...

"Re: ChristmasPresents.tv

This is an excellent name. Top Ovt Bid is $5.00 and a useful number of search results.

I would say mid $x,xxx

Best Regards
Dave Wrixon"

I appreciate the feedback, however, and Merry Christmas.

dw is right though. Let's face it. Until high-tech face scanning and recoginiton come to the homefront (50-75 years+ for the average home), MOST people are going to go to their local eye doctor for contact lenses. This domain simply does not have the "shop online" mark that many domains have.

At the rate Technology advances, I strongly disagree with the aforementioned statement... 1800contacts.com, Lenses.com and others appear to be doing quite well with customers ordering contacts via their website AFTER they visit their eye doctor for their prescription. This is a solid domain name.

Wish I saved that second post you removed after namewaiter and domain jedi :)
You seemed to see the merit in their comments.

"High-tech face scanning," I wasn't thinking about getting the ACTUAL lens fitting online.

More than 2,000 "contactlenses" domains are registered and I don't think one of them is thinking along those lines.

It's a lot simpler. You have a prescription from your local eyecare professional, right.
Maybe even an extra copy in case you lose a lens or want a spare pair.
You price shop online.
You get the best deal. Bingo. Order.
(They may even put your rx on file, to re-order.)

Selling contact lenses is a very competitive business.
Run some late night and weekend ads and do a brisk mail order business.
And always use it in your print ads.

AND, how many domainers have an affiliation at CJ, or elsewhere with a contact lens company?

Hey, with a prescription, they even sell Viagra online.
According to the above, I would have to NEVER MIND :-#

Ok, I am having a real hard time understanding why some people think that .TV goes with contactlenses? Verisign is marketing DOT TV. I would think the name should have some relevence to TV to be worth anything in the future. .COM will always command against .TV in names that have no meaning to television. I own many .TVs but almost all that I think are of any value go along with the extension. Think about it. ContactLenses.com would be great, ContactLenses.TV would not, IMHO.

That's a good name. Who knows what it is worth, but it is definitely worth the $35 per year for the rest of your life. I would bet "my eyes" that you will be able to sell that for over $700 between now and 2015, which would be a nice profit. I try to explain this business to people and they look at me like a deer caught in headlights. I often sell names for 30-50 times (and more) what I paid and some have essentially zero traffic. ContactLenses.tv is very brandable. I'm surprised more people aren't saying "whaaaaaaats the traaaaaaafic". In five years people will be talking about all the names that were still availabe right now. I have just a few .tvs but I think that there are a lot of bargains out there. The $35 price is scaring a lot of people away, but creating opportunites.

The .nets, orgs, infos, and tvs all are unique in their own way. A television ad campaign using contactlenses.tv would make perfect sense and it would be easy to remember. I've been in the business for under a year, but many of these posters were in the business in the mid-90's....I wonder why they let so many million dollar names go unregistered?

P.S. I am a Dotcom guy and it will ALWAYS be a Dotcom world...Period. Doesn't mean there aren't great opportunites elsewhere.

That's certainly true, but the domains people will be talking about will be Chinese IDN. By 2015 China will be an economic super-power, if not the economic super-power. Chinese domains do not have as many work arounds as English Domains. There are no tenses, cases or plurals. Once you have the one that matters, you are out there on your own! What more most of what are being registered are dot coms, that have the same legal standing as the ones you already own!

Sorry, not being a user myself and living in the UK where the market structure appears to be somewhat different, I have probably underestimated the potential of this.

In Britain, these are still sold through the High Street, eye tests are conducted at point of sale and prices are very competitive. Clearly there is a risk that US market might restructure to the British Model, but maybe the US model is the future, who knows?

With all reasonable extensions sold out and 500K related searches on Overture, there is clearly a great deal of interest. Don't like dot TV as I think the registration fees are way too high, but even so it has got to be worth North of $1,000.

Just shows how wrong you can be when looking at things from the wrong perspective!

In the U.S. you can get your eyes examined and then order the contacts online.......... as the local eye dr. will prob charge $120 for Focus Dailies for example for R/L eye 90 day while you can get the same ones from Lensmart for $80 with free shipping after coupon code...

Alot of eye places online do require a prescription so there is a reason to buy them online - to get a deal

YES, and just a few years ago on domain forums many of us were
questioning the .TV extension.

"It DOES NOT stand for television. It's TUVALU, they would argue."

Perception changes.

Now, we argue about what's to the left of the dot.

Well, I tried to order a pair with 2020 hindsight, but they're not
making them anymore. :)

I took a shot with this name. I think I got my money's worth.

Excellent Name
and much to my surprise wordtracker shows "contact lenses" at more than double the searches as "contact lens"

I registered ContactLensBlog.com
and LensesBlog.com --- at that buying spree ContactLensesBlog.com was still available, but no longer.

ContactsBlog.com is still available and "contacts" gets more searches than "contact lens" if you're interested

You did good :)
