I've noticed several of my sites all of a sudden were bumped off of first place in google and several were taken out of the google categories as reflected in the DMOZ. I think the people who control the categories have way too much power and since most indexes take the lazy road of simply interfacing with DMOZ especially google this can have a devistating effect on site rankings especially if i've bought other sites within that same category. I've submitted many sites which have taken months to even show up if at all and seen others pop in there overnight (DMOZ).

Just checked again and Google has done some RADICAL changes to their algo.

Looks like keyword domain names don't factor in as much, if at all. Of course, there are other things to consider...

There is info about this at http://www.scroogle.org they are calling it "search scraping"

The site shows who the real google top 20 are in many catagories compared to who google actually shows as the top 20 after running their "scrape filter". The sites that are highly optimized for ecommerce keywords are the most filtered. The site keeps a live list of the keywords that are being "scraped" the worst. So in fact they are scraped because they have done the best job of optimizing their page for google.

The site owner is speculating that Google is doing this to cause those site owners to buy into Adsense in order to get front page results.

Yes their is something that happened called the florida update. I read about it on sitepointforums.com. Pretty nasty changes as i lost many top 10 rankings. This made me so crazy i built a custom search engine position tool at http://RankWhere.com

You should read everything about google's changes just before xmas. It is pretty crazy. My product sales are down 60%.
