I turned DomainGap.com into a WWD Reseller site and I was wondering how much the domain was worth>?

I'm curious.

1.) What do you personally think it means?
2.) How do you think visitors will relate to it?

I was searching delteddomains and came across this one. Like Domain Gap, I don't know it was the only easy remember domain I could think of without making some weird name up. Like there's a gap and you put domains in it? I don't know thats why I asked your guys :-O

GAP -
1. a break in a barrier
2. an incomplete or deficient area
3. a wide difference in character or attitude
4. a problem caused by some disparity

I suppose if you pitch it as a solution for helping a business find the MISSING name for their online presence... it would work well. "What is YOUR Domain Gap?" Probably on the low end of decent names, but I think it has possibilities. It's closer to "wouldn't have registered it" than anything though. You could take the approach Register.com has been working hard on. Facilitating small businesses.

Good luck,

I have a few domain business related names, nonw of which were cheap to acquire.
My reasoning being, If I am goin to invest into sedinging a site (for other regsitars like an enom reseller) or, a WWD reseller, that means I am going to pay money.
If I am going to pay money and expect something in return, why would I go 'cheap' on one of the most important things, *especially* in this business, which is identity=domain name.
So, to summarize, DomainGap is not terrible, but it is not a domain I would use to build on, such as creating a reseller site for WWD.

I would prefer to spend a little mre and buy a good solid name.

I have to agree with you. Since those reseller sites look alike, the name & logo matter most! :-P

Nevertheless, Cumberland Gap occupies an honorable place in American History and Geography. The Gap clothing store would not be about to abandon its name for one more descriptive of its product. "Do you like this, I bought it at the Thread?" The internet is full of popular sites with improbable names. TuCows, GoDaddy, RegisterFly DomainDuck, etc. ad nauseum. Why not just work with what you have? If you find something you know is better, go for it. Just be thankful you haven't been stuck with domainpuke.com :cheeky:

--But, lest reason be abandoned, both "The Gap" and "Cumberland Gap" are named for very clear, and even saavy reasons...

Also worthy of note... all of these names were chosen for a reason. I'm sure if you asked RegisterFly why they named themselves how they were named, I'm sure they'd have one. At the very least, like GoDaddy... names are chosen for the inspiration that they bring, and many these companies would actually have had an idea going *before* registering the name.

That said... I think there's truth that the name MAY not matter, and the "nonsensicalness" may actually work in your favor... but, that's the *exception* and NOT the rule. I don't think any of the names mentioned were registered because they were seen as "available" from expiring lists... and then, after getting it, began wondering what they could do with it. To be honest, I would hope to dissuade anyone from persuing names in that way. I think its a waste of hard-earned money, and encouraging it isn't healthy at all.

I agree with nexus.

also, remember how much branding was involved with popular names to become famous.
Still, register.com (although a lousy regsitrar) has the best name together with name.com.
a few of them that I think are horrible (not necessarily the registrars, just the names)
here are the horrible sounding ones:
The one, I forget buts iits something like domainmonkey I think., rest,

Godaddy
registerfly
domainduck
000domains (right)
dodora
gandi.net (what next, george?)
namezero (I can see it)
joker (aint taking you serioulsy)
ttpia (whats that suppose to mean)?

I am sure there are others.
with the exception of GD, from the above list, I have accounts with only registerfly because I bought a name from someone here that was there, and, psi (Japan) because pool caught some names for me there.
I think those names are horrible, and I would not register a name there unles there was a serius reason. That is, given a choice through a list of names, I would choose from the list below, these IMHO sound better:

name
register
1232registration
alldomains
dotforce
dotster
ireregister
namescout
namesdirect
namesecure
namesystem
planetdomain

etc...

True, but what we are talking about is a young fellow on a limited budget investing reg fee on a startup domain name. He has the opportunity to make what he may of it while at the same time he is lurking in the wings, so to speak, and saving his $ to get the blockbuster name we are all competing with him to get. Meanwhile, he just might turn his reg fee domain name into a decent income producer. The experience he will get can't be discounted either.

I hear you. I'm a curmudgeon though. I'd rather tell someone they made a mistake, than tell them, however limited their budget... that they should work hard at forcing a square peg into a round hole, just for the sake of true grit. It might make for a good story if successful, but 1 out of 10 businesses fail. I never believe in consciously giving any business I invest time into an EXTRA reason to fail. The only exception I make to nonsensical names, is when it is VERY intentional. I registered FIGMA.com, and its really stuck with the people that visit it. The difference is though... I really believed in the idea behind it.

If DomainGap.com is more than an "also-ran" reseller, and has some serious business imperitives pushing behind it (like my first suggestion), I think it would do fine. I think we were being asked what we thought of the name though. I'd hate to give a positive answer independant of what the domain actually is. That would seem antithetical to the very reason he posted in this forum category... which is valuing a name by itself.

I agree. I think he has an opinion now of the name's value. If he should acquire one that suits him better, there is always url forwarding. Meanwhile best wishes for the DomainGap!
