My reasoning being, If I am goin to invest into sedinging a site (for other regsitars like an enom reseller) or, a WWD reseller, that means I am going to pay money.
If I am going to pay money and expect something in return, why would I go 'cheap' on one of the most important things, *especially* in this business, which is identity=domain name.
So, to summarize, DomainGap is not terrible, but it is not a domain I would use to build on, such as creating a reseller site for WWD.
I would prefer to spend a little mre and buy a good solid name.
--But, lest reason be abandoned, both "The Gap" and "Cumberland Gap" are named for very clear, and even saavy reasons...neologist said:Nevertheless, Cumberland Gap occupies an honorable place in American History and Geography. The Gap clothing store would not be about to abandon its name for one more descriptive of its product. "Do you like this, I bought it at the Thread?"
Also worthy of note... all of these names were chosen for a reason. I'm sure if you asked RegisterFly why they named themselves how they were named, I'm sure they'd have one. At the very least, like GoDaddy... names are chosen for the inspiration that they bring, and many these companies would actually have had an idea going *before* registering the name.neologist said:The internet is full of popular sites with improbable names. TuCows, GoDaddy, RegisterFly DomainDuck, etc. ad nauseum. Why not just work with what you have? If you find something you know is better, go for it.
I hear you. I'm a curmudgeon though. I'd rather tell someone they made a mistake, than tell them, however limited their budget... that they should work hard at forcing a square peg into a round hole, just for the sake of true grit. It might make for a good story if successful, but 1 out of 10 businesses fail. I never believe in consciously giving any business I invest time into an EXTRA reason to fail. The only exception I make to nonsensical names, is when it is VERY intentional. I registered FIGMA.com, and its really stuck with the people that visit it. The difference is though... I really believed in the idea behind it.neologist said:True, but what we are talking about is a young fellow on a limited budget investing reg fee on a startup domain name. He has the opportunity to make what he may of it while at the same time he is lurking in the wings, so to speak, and saving his $ to get the blockbuster name we are all competing with him to get. Meanwhile, he just might turn his reg fee domain name into a decent income producer. The experience he will get can't be discounted either.
I agree. I think he has an opinion now of the name's value. If he should acquire one that suits him better, there is always url forwarding. Meanwhile best wishes for the DomainGap!Nexus said:I hear you. I'm a curmudgeon though. If DomainGap.com is more than an "also-ran" reseller, and has some serious business imperitives pushing behind it (like my first suggestion), I think it would do fine. I think we were being asked what we thought of the name though. I'd hate to give a positive answer independant of what the domain actually is. That would seem antithetical to the very reason he posted in this forum category... which is valuing a name by itself.
