I don't want to be crass here, so would someone else kindly inquire about the cash honorarium that comes with the award? :-D

I have sold 970 domains in the past 12 months

Wow, that is pretty amazing in my opinion.

You get 100 dnf bucks, a used copy of "Domain Names for Dummies"-1987 edition and a romantic dinner date with GiantDomains  - you still want the nomination?

Duke,
We decided last night that we will have a banquet to present the award.
I don't know if they decided on the place. It is a toss up between the
Cayman Islands and Hong Kong.

Congratulations on being nominated.

Incidently, the winner of the award has to pay for the celebration.

You know at first, I though the whole thing was some kind of scam - but now I know it's on the level. With the winner obligated to pay all expenses, there's no doubt the concept really is from the domain community I know and love!

Hmmm....now I could use the DNF and the book, but are substitutions allowed on the romantic dinner date? Nothing against GiantDomains (though his being male might make me a bit uncomfortable - especially when he pulls his patented "Hey, you dropped your fork - better bend over and pick it up" trick). I was thinking BritishAngel might be a more suitable alternative. :-D

Duke,

I would suggest you go with GiantDomains. Because, the committee had originally
suggested Stephen Michael Cohen (sex.com hijacker) or John Z. (if we can
get him out of jail).

Does anyone remember where Duke got his name?

It seems fitting when you read the lyrics.

As I walk through this world
Nothing can stop the Duke of Earl
And if you follow me faithfully
I will promise you peace in heaven above
I tell you nothing can stop me
Oh no yeah baby
Yes I m the Duke of Earl
Now do not question and do not think
Just follow blindly and listen to me
Cause I will lead you to a promise land
If you have faith and take my hand

Uh, that looks like the King James version to me Doc! For all of the poor souls who missed out on the incredible 60's R&B era, the actual lyrics are:

Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl

Duke, Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl
Duke, Duke, Duke of Earl

As I walk through this world
Nothing can stop the Duke of Earl
And-a you, you are my girl
And no one can hurt you, oh no

Yes-a, I, oh I'm gonna love you, oh oh
Come on let me hold you darlin'
'Cause I'm the Duke of Earl
So hey yea yea yeah

And when I hold you
You'll be my Duchess, Duchess of Earl
We'll walk through my dukedom
And a paradise we will share

Yes-a, I, oh I'm gonna love you, oh oh
Nothing can stop me now
'Cause I'm the Duke of Earl
So hey yeah yeah yeah

Well, I, oh I'm gonna love you, oh oh
Nothing can stop me now
'Cause I'm the Duke of Earl
So hey yeah yeah yeah

(The song was both written and performed by Gene Chandler)

I have told people the nickname came from the song, but I don't think I ever told them how I got it. It dates back to my high school. While getting ready for football practive each day I would jump up on one of those long locker room benches and stroll down the bench singing "Duke of Earl". My recollection wasn't especially good so I only sang the first two stanzas over and over (as you can see from the lyrics above - that wasn't too challenging).

Some of the black guys loved the routine and started calling me The Duke. The name stuck and whenever I visit my hometown people still call me Duke. The football coach had another name for me (not suitable for print). He caught me doing the routine one day and apparently didn't find it as entertaining as my teammates. I found myself doing some extra windsprints that day. Some people just have no sense of humor. :)

You're lucky your favourite song wasn't "The Beer I Had For Breakfast Is Comin' Back For Lunch" (yes..it's a real song), otherwise you might have had a nickname starting with "p".

Yes - it just goes to show that no matter how bad you have it, someone else has it worse - so I won't complain about Duke! :-D

Duke,

And, all of this time. I thought you were named Duke because you had the
"John Wayne" stride! :-D

I have exhibited that stride from time to time, usually at outdoor events where the portable toilets are all full. :)

I'm impressed with all of these sales.

Congratulations to Duke, TimeChange and StocDoctor.

Pretty soon, you will be in BD's level of sales.

Let me know when your success books come out in paperback.
(That's all I can afford.)

What's the big deal? When you average it out, that's only about one an hour! :clown:

Just when I thought I was doing good, you have to put THAT number out there! :)
