Ok..here we go: I really need some explained opinions on golf.pk

.pk is the ccTld for the 6th most populated Country in the world: Pakistan

English and Urdu are the official languages in Pakistan.

Thank you

Probably zero. In fact, if you dropped Warren Buffett off in Pakistan with $5,000 in his pockets he would be worth zero in no time at all.

There is a certain location where the Big Show takes place....its called dotcom. Most people don't go to the other locations, and there isn't a lot of money changing hands in those places.

It's really not that easy to just register common words when new extentions open up and be rich. The reason these extentions weren't up-and-running before is because there isn't a lot of demand for the extention. The Registrars make a killing of the mad rush, as people see it at their opportunity to get Generic names. Very few of these names are worth anything.

Also, most of the renewal fees are higher than dotcom as well. And since most of the names are immediately taken by speculators it leads to very few end-user sites, and this leads to lots of domains expiring over the next few years when people realize that the difference between Golf.com and Golf.pk is so great that they might as well not be the same words.

However, if you renew for the next twenty years you might have something. It will take at least that long for the extention to get rolling. If all of the speculators have the names then there is no chance for the extention.

agree w/WhoDatDog and admire his cynisism ;) having said that, JEW.CC sold for a couple of $Ks and are other numerous examples of IMHO not worthy TLDs which have fetched some serious money...

as per his suggestion, keep renewing for 2-3 years and see where it takes you

Thanks, .pk is automatically paid for 2 years minimun.

I think till overture is not placed in PK I can`t say nothing but to see past sales of ccTLDs I think that you guys are really wrong this time.

I already know what some users here think about ccTLDs but again, coming from a country like Italy where .it RULES comparated to .com, I can`t agree with you.

I'm backing your optimism ITD I have www.holiday.pk not doing much ATM but will be properly sorted soon. It is on member DNjet's nameservers currently just parked with some adsense.

besides the new extension, Golf is not a very popular game yet in pakistan. Yet it is atleast high XX - low xxx as of now. Hold on to it for atleast 5 years to reap good return.

There are definite examples of winning names in extentions other than dotcom. I bought a few .tw's and had an offer of over $500 for one the other day. I also bought Christ.tw and I cannot give it away. When you cannot give strong names like Christ away then the extention is a waste.

There are exceptions, but they generally just prove the rule. The weaker the extention the stronger the name has to be. I didn't make these rules up...I'm just a quick learner.

What do you mean you can`t give it away??

Thank you

Yes I know it`s not very popular but I`m not planning to sell it this year.
I want to develop it and make it the number 1 source for Golf fans in that Country.

Thank you

Hi, nice one, but what do you mean by:

"not doing much ATM"

Thank you

it is a good domain but i don't know about .pk...

It is a sleeper, one of those not destined for a quick turn-around but will prove its value with time.

well in my country(pakistan) golf is some thing which is only famous in particular class of masses (i think this is the case with golf in every country).. so if you are thinking you will get huge response from pakistan, i must say i dont think it is not gonna happen .....

Hi change, thanks for your comment but your Country flag says Isle of Man....were you born in Pakistan?

I am confused from the way you wrote the last sentence. Do you think it`s not going to be more popular or yes it will be?

If you are from Pakistan, could you confirm me also that the majority of internet users over there speak English or do they prefer Urdu ?

Thank you

Well I`m aware of Poker.pk sold for more than 1K

You can find additional info about .pk on wikipedia.org

Thank you to you too, I agree and would like to develop it but my webmaster skills are very little.

meaning that I have not yet seriously developed it to make money, I am 100% sure that the .pk domains will do well in the medium term, as you have said in terms of population (and worldwide 1st and 2nd generation emigrees), it almost ranks alongside .in and .cn both of these are sure to do well. The future lies in Asia and the performance of .com now will be replicated there. It will only need minor adjustments to search engines when these domains are more common to rank them

equally. The next 'google' may well originate in this region.

I see, I agree with you, certainly I`m not expecting to get 50k for it but saying that one of the most hot keywords worths zero in the 6th most populated Country in the world ( and 3rd if we consider only English speaking Countries, just after India and Usa ) it really makes no sense to me especially if we have a look at the othr ccTlds sales or even in this forum there are plenty of people selling plenty of names in much worse ccTlds and of less quality.
Based on the first 2 comments in this thread then the buyer of Poker.pk just bought garbage for $1,500 ???
I asked appraisals and am happy to receive criticism or to admit I made a mistake but this time I can`t really agree with the zero or reg fee value.

Thank you

yes, the buyer of poker.pk probably overpaid..those things tend to happen.. also.. golf is not really a prime sport in PK, the pure population is not a measure of value, there are many countries with the population of PK, such as Bangladesh and Nigeria, but would you register golf (and whatever the tld for nigeria is?) what matters is only how many people play golf in that location.. and if you dont know the ballpark number for that it was probably a rushed decision that could have used some research before..I think the value is around $xx

Fair enough.
I can wait 10 years too. I think we can compare Pak to Bangladesh but not to Nigeria.
Thank you

I just think there are tens of thousands of great-looking names floating around in extentions other than dotcom, and over 90 percent of these names are owned by speculators, so the value really isn't there. Someone could pay you $1,000, but that's not the point.

I think that if you listed it in a bunch of threads then there is no guarantee that you would get a $100 offer anytime soon. If that is true, then how much is the name worth? I look at the value of names a little different than other people. To me, a name is worth would you would reasonable expect to get if you had to sell it. If you had to raise $100 by selling this name today...could you do it? If you could then it is worth the price you get. If not, then it could very well be worth zero.

The registrars are trapping people into buying most of these names. It might work out though, but it isn't a gold mine. It could be that 10 years down the road people will look back and scratch their heads about all of the great words they let go in 3rd rate extentions. If that is the case, then you will profit from Golf.pk. However, I believe that all of these new extentions only make dotcom stronger. I picked up a few .tw's when they opened it up months ago. It can be exciting to get such a nice word that really looks good....until you look at what determines a domain name's value...then the bloom fades from the rose rather quickly.

The worst part about it is that everyone is in a rush to get these names appraised the next day. New extention names and Zune-type names are usually bought by those who aren't making a ton of money in the business. Asking for an appraisal on a name from an obscure extention that was just released is a disease with no apparent cure.

Well now you gave me a better respectable opinion that I understand and partially agree.
The last part in this case is not appropriate since the .pk registry opened the second level on 20 of June exactly like the .fr in France ( which I guess that too is garbage for you ) and I have registered 5 names and did not ask any opinion in 5 weeks. Now I was just curious about one of them.
Not everybody had the luck to pick and choose LLL.coms years ago or just reg Country`s names or City`s name.

These days to me, it seems that if you don`t own the LLL.com or the top notch dictionary short and brandable .com basically you are just annoying DNFORUM`s community.
I don`t have huge amount of money to buy top .coms , I hope you will forgive me.

Thank you

I see it as you do italiandragon. Yes, at the moment .com is the daddy. That's because it is the American TLD and all the big sales are coming from and going to Americans!!! If it is not an American company purchasing it, it is (on the whole) a US domainer or domainer company.

The 3 biggest net savvy users (at the moment) are
USA
Germany
UK

Businesses are very slow to switch on. What happens in the USA takes approx 5yrs for businesses here in Europe to catch up. Here in the UK, a large company will still register joe-bloggs-joinery.co.uk cause it only costs £5 instead of buying joiner.co.uk for £5K

However, things are changing, slowly for the better and wait until the rest of the world catches up :)

I believe in a few years time all top generic words from any TLD will be worth a lot of money and I beleive golf.pk is certainly going to be one of them.

You have to remember .com has been around for well over 15 years, how long has .PK or .CC or all the others been in existance for? not very long.

As businesses catch on and as search engines start to show top TLDs the likes of golf.pk is going to be worth a lot of money.

What are you going to buy in 5 years time if you want instant branding and have a limited budget...

golf.com for $10 million or golf.pk for $20,000

Great name Italian Dragon. Sit on the fence and watch that baby's value grow with the coming years.

Or, if you want, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is and I will by it from you for $800 today.
