yes it is!!!

And likewise just as you are learning from us, we are learning from you "oneguy". I think it's good to know what is happening in your country. Sounds like the US and Singapore aren't much different. Our lives revolve around eating and watching TV as well--lol. We really do need to lay off the binge eating!!!

Just a few thoughts Oneguy. Maybe they will help, maybe not.

When you think of a niche, it doesn't have to be something completely untouched. In fact if nobody is doing anything on it already, there is a good chance that there is no real market for it. I think the idea is to work in underdeveloped or under-represented areas, not necessarily to invent whole new ones.

Something I was thinking is instead of looking for what to sell to people in Singapore, why not sell Singapore to the rest of the world. Maybe you could find products from there and set up deals with manufacturers and buy or have them dropshipped to your customers.

Another idea is an information site regarding Singapore. Not a generalized portal as that is probably well covered, but a NICHE. For example you could concentrate on Singapore hotels or beaches or a particular city or virtually anything where an interest already exists. This is one of those things, where you wouldn't make money right away, but if you develop a site around the niche and present a lot of good info, you can find something to market to your audience later. You could also have a newletter/mailing list on your chosen topic and use that to do surveys and find out exactly what your market wants. Then give it to them for a good price.

As for snowboarding, how many sites are actually giving good information and how many are just pushing products. Presell your customers, by writing articles or setting up a newsletter with tips/info on snowboarding. Or specialize and find a NICHE within snowboarding that is unexploited and work that angle.

I hope this will help stir up some ideas for you. At any rate, I wish you the best.

(my first post here, so I'll try to make it count)

I make a decent living from selling products on the Web. I've enlisted a legion of both affiliates and drop ship buyers (I drop ship the products to their customers) to help grow my business.

There are several things I've learned, which I hope will help you:

A) Be patient: My business is two years old, but I almost sold it to a relative about 16 months ago for a few hundred dollars. That would have been a tragic mistake, because the business now makes a six-figure profit each year. Know that it is likely to take at least 2-3 months to get any significant activity and sales volume, and 6-12 months to really have things rolling. In addition to my main sales site, I've opened additional sites/businesses, and that timeline still seems to hold.

B) Be active: Don't create a sales site and let it sit. I found that if I doubled my product offerings, I doubled my sales. Obviously, there is some point of diminishing returns, but keep growing until it is clear.

C) Try various avenues: Join an affiliate program as a merchant; offer drop shipping; offer wholesale discounts; offer products for sweepstakes to build interest; offer a low-cost (to you) free product if they pay shipping (obviously, the cost of the product should be less than your shipping charge); use low-cost services such as PRWeb to make announcements; and any other things you can think of that won't cost much to try.

For those of you trying to find "niche" markets to break into, here's my tip:

Someone mentioned earlier that the business-to-business arena is still going strong, and growing. I have found that in the wholesale products area in general there are very few competent players with Web sites. It seems that the manufacturers and importers simply aren't very good at putting together good, usable sites for their wholesale buyers (I don't mean sites offering "wholesale prices", but true to-the-trade-only wholesale distributors).

NEWS FLASH

To the person who reported a post that was over a month old - because it contained the words 'tity' & 'nipple' - please try to lighten up. First of all - the post you reported was made over a month ago. Second of all - you will find worse language on any network television station tonight.

We try to keep things friendly for everybody here. This is a community full of people from all different walks of life - and all different countries. There has to be a little 'give & take'. The post you reported is simply not an issue for anybody except you apparently. I'm sorry it bothered you - but please try to be a little more understanding - and flexible.

Thanks! :)

I'll second that thought.

Mmm... dun I'll appreciate if anyone can provide me with some links or names of sites that have private label or co-branding service other than the usually webhosting and domain registration etc ..

Oneguy, I built my ecommerce site in about 3 days in my spare time. The tools was easier to use than any sitebuilder ecommerce or not.
www.childrensplaysets.com is the url if you want to check it out. Still have some "tweaking" to do. The sitebuilder is here: www.38m.com

As far as dropshippers I have a ton of them because I own a retail, bricks and mortar business and many of my suppliers dropship. Unfortunately none drop ship out of North America.

Someone (sorry for not quoting) here mentioned putting up info about Singapore. That's a good idea. Link to travel sites and talk about the commerce and points of interest etc.

Good luck.

Hello,

Ok after reading the posts it seems like many of us are intrested in making money through domains. Well here is something I can do, but in order for me to do this I need to establish a trust-relationship with the folks. Since people I work with are all in wholesale industry, I can provide wholesale products and can do drop-ship as well. For now I am willing to work with 5 individuals at the moment who are intrested.

I am willing to work in two wholesale markets at the moment.

1) Designer handbags. My company can control the inventory and if good dedicated folks are intrested we can develop a system where you would simply go in and place the order and put the shipping information of the reciever. More information about this will be disclosed after contacting me.

2) Printers. From low quality to high quality and these are wholesale prices I can get at. Same rules as above.

I am sure many of us have great domains that are sitting on parked domains for ppc engines. Why not use this opportunity and make cash?

That is all. Thank you

I just wanted to share that I'm beginning to make good money on affiliate programs (mostly gambling) meaning income streams of $3000 a month at the moment.

As a lot of people say in this thread, it takes some time (a year for me) until it starts happening, but now that I know how to "swing the bat" there is really nothing stopping me.

Develop sites with price and product comparison info within a specific area and recommend some online shops that you have affiliate accounts with. Then either search engine optimise them to get traffic or try some pay per click services like ah-ha and overture.

Another niche is, if you like me, have another language than english to work with. For example, the competition is much less for the top spots in google for the term for "web hotel" in swedish than it is for the english. Still the market is big enough to make some serious money even in a country with only 8 million people. (My next project is a web hotel comparison page in swedish...). I'm sure some swedes will read this, but there is plenty for everybody so lets see who tops Google first of us!

This is exactly what I am doing with one of my sites.
Essentially it will be a product comparison guide and product review site with affiliate programs and some drop ship items.

Already has traffic but will add PPCs and targeted online and offline advertising if I ever finish the site.

Sorry .. but although Singapore has our own 4 seasons as well. Winter doesn't seem to be one of them.

PS - Singapore's 4 seasons = RAINY, SUNNY, RAINY+SUNNY, SUNNY+RAINY ...

Sounds like you might do well to sell umbrellas and rain gear online. :D

Well, I doubt it ... considering that each average Singaporean household owns at least 2 to 3 umbrellas !

But I do enjoy the light touch of humour ... thanks

If anyone knows alot of webmasters..

We have a lucrative ad sales position available.

We're looking for someone with sales experience and who is knowledgeable about the web. It helps tremendously if you know alot of webmasters..

The job is selling advertising (paid listings) on our website AffiliateProgram.com, which is an index of internet affiliate programs.

It is an independent contractor position. It is commission based.

The commission is $100 per sale, which is pretty attractive. It sure beats many other puny sales commissions.
