if the offer is genuine, I would say sell it. Unlikely that domain will fetch anywhere near 500 USD in the future.

I disagree, counter with $1,250 and say something like:

"Thank you for the offer, this domain is getting alot of interest lately and I had planned on selling this domain for at least $2,500 minimum given the type-in and search relevance of this keyword domain which is at the top of it's field in a very profitable industry. Thus, if you would like to move forward, I will sell you the domain and accept a full 50% discount off my price which brings it down to just $1,250 BIN and only slightly more than your opening offer. Let me know if you would like to proceed and that this is within your budget. Conversely, I would consider leasing the domain to you if you only needed it temporarily at a rate of $100 per month, otherwise you can just buy this online property outright and own it forever as your business grows on the Internet. Payment may be made to my paypal business account at "[email protected]" or I can start an escrow transaction for you using escrow.com
Which would you prefer?"

Regards,

your name

ps- For a comparison of similiar premium domain name values in todays very competitive market please see: http://www.dnjournal.com/ytd-sales-charts.htm
In contrast I think we can all agree this price being offered is very nominal.

Don't take $500..they make triple that on one lasiks procedure and top eye doctors do hundreds a year! You might even want to change the numbers to $5000 and then $2,500 as a BIN, the lease option is just there to put numbers into perspective and encourage a purchase from perceived value.
I would also of course change the lease option to $175/$200/mo if you jack the numbers up to make it all mesh You might get lucky and lease it..lol then you get paid and keep your name, AND they develop it. You never know who's on the other end of that email and if in fact a "client" is having an agent or broker contact you there could be big cash on the other end of that computer! So don't leave it sitting there, if you are courteous and respectful the worst that could happen is they say NO, but we can go $750 or $1000, etc. If they really are serious they are'nt going to get scared away by one counter offer, and if they do then you were just getting low-balled by a speculator to begin with!

Can you get by without selling that domain?
If yes and if it's me, I would counter with at least 3.5K
I may even counter it with 7K if it's me.

Your domain is very industry specific and location specific.
And it's NewYork! Highly populated area!
Lasik - there are huge demand and it's not cheap. I did Lasik ;-)

Lasik surgeon makes very nice $ and have deep pocket.
For them, even 10K is nothing.

This domain is THE domain for this surgeon!

BTW, why is your landing page is not optimized with proper keyword?
If you have properly optimized landing page with tons of ads for "lasik surgeons in NewYork",
You can say "your offer do not even cover my current income from clicked ADS from your client's competing surgeons" :D

I will never sell this domain for offered amount!

Good Luck :D

My thoughts, don't go to crazy here. Maybe you can get some more but don't push it too far. There are a thousand combo's anyone can use for any business if they want yours be reasonable, it's not a single word that cannot be replaced. Cheers,

I like the "your competitors are advertising on this site now" (in my own words) angle and "I'm making more with PPC" from it copper, you are so brilliant thats why I luv ya man!...:ok:
A new tool for my arsenal! MuhAhahahAhAha

You can get at least $1k for this domain all day, when someone sends you an email that means they wanted the name, went through the task of looking it up and proceeded to send you a price offer, that means they expect to pay more, trust me..who knows ask 5k see what happens

That my be true when selling to a reseller, but the possibilities are not quite so limited to endusers.

I agree with Mocus, set the price high.

Get REAL! Take the deal and KISS the buyers hand. It's a long worded name and it's a niche market with limited buyers.

Your right, there are way too many combos, I sold enough lasik domains to know that a 4 word domain such as this, is tough to unload, if you push this with a counteroffer, the odds of them looking elsewhere is very high...It sounds like this offer is coming from a web developer, all the more reason to take it!

You guys are forgetting that THEY APPROACHED HIM, he has the upper hand and 99/100 buyers expect to shoot out a low offer like $500 and get a counter offer of at least double or triple. Don't you?

I think althouhg they approached him, you can be sure they already have a couple of alternatives, actually you can be sure your domain IS an alternative, the other guys he approached before you probably wanted some mid $$$$ number as well, I think if you say something like 5K he will just move on to the next name on the list..its a long name that would not bring $500 in an auction, maybe you can get a little more, I think I would ask for $900, but please let us know how this thing plays out.

I agree.

I would counter with $1000 or so, but honestly I dont think the name is worth much more than he offered, so try and strike a deal and make a nice return on your investment...don't go overboard asking for insane amounts and risk losing your buyer.

Read the initial email, "One of our clients is interested in this domain" this is a web developer buying for his client, from my experience, web developers usually offer $500 for a startup domain, this seems to be the norm, I received at least 15 of these offers in the past year, and never heard back from one after I counter offered between $1000-$3000, and these were 2 word domains, I strongly suggest you take the $500, if you decide to counter offer, call him on the phone, its less likely you'll lose the sale.

That is a good idea. Shoot him an offer and let him know that you also own those domains.

However, be warned that it does look bad on your part that they were registered very recently.

I would counter with 1k. If they take it, consider yourself lucky.

If they don't respond, I would try and get the 500$ for it.
