They don't have prerelease agreements AFAIK so the domains just drop and it's free for all. I think it was just back luck that both SN & NJ failed to catch them.
BUT some of the domains at 1&1 are just pushed to Domcollect as soon as they expire. So they have some sort of prerelease agreement with themselves...
