Hand regging names? Is it worth it?

Okay so I was just messing around today checking for available NAme names and dictionary words.

Some of the ones I found for real names are different spellings but are used. Are they worth registering if theres only 1-2 extensions left?

Like the .net or .org?

I just don't want to waste money if its a waste of time as I would only be registering in hopes to resell.

it realy depends what you are looking for. Do you expect the domains to have traffic and make ppc revenue? Or simply want to resell later ?

I believe a lot of domains have already been tasted, but for sure you still can find traffic domains.

IF it is a less common spelling then it may not be worth it for the obvious reasons, especially when considering a less common domain extension.

Yea the names are mostly "exotic" or less common spellings. One of the names however I did find is used for a variety of things other than just a persons name. I am thinking about registering it.

I would only focus on .com domains if hand reg. There are a few .com domains you can do hand reg and you may be able to sell with good profit.

e.g. I handreg a name for $7 and sold for 1000 recently.

ccTLDs are good for hand regs, as not that many are taken.

depends on the extension.

if you register a ccTLD where there is a big aftermarket, for example .de, .cn, .co.uk, it will not be that difficult. Of course if you choose an extension like .ki or .cx the chances of selling are rather slim.

Don't let such thinking seduce you... While it's true that it costs only $8 to register a domain, you must also look at the big picture: It costs $8 every time you register a domain and every time you renew it. That's a lot of eight dollars.

(I wouldn't have spent $24 on the three .org domains mentioned above, for example.)

The more domains you register, the more likely it gets that you don't sell all of them. Hence you must achieve higher average sales prices to also pay for the domains that you fail to sell.

All in all, I agree that it's best to focus on .com domains and, for foreign keywords, popular ccTLDs. Sometimes other gTLDs may be an option, too, but not so much for "exotic" keywords like the ones above.

I concur. Depends on your intentions. If developing, then .net & org are fine, as well as cctlds if you intend to develop for those regions. For resale, stick to .coms.

There are still a lot of go hand regges to be had for development, and more right here on the forum cheap.
