The numbers are in....and they're off the chart! The domain name market boom continues according to Verisigns quarterly domain name industry brief.
" ....5.1 million new domain names were registered in the third quarter of 2004, representing the highest quarterly growth in Internet history. In total, worldwide domain name registrations reached a record high of 66.3 million domain names. Other important trends in Internet usage continued at strong levels, including renewal rates and the percentage of domain names associated with Web sites."

The report also states that current numbers for domain registrations have increased by 33% in comparison to last years third quarter results.
Verisign officials say a large part of the registration increase is due to the pay-per-click industry.
"The Google AdSense program and other programs like that, that's spurring on the increased, rapid purchase of domain names in the U.S.," said Raynor Dahlquist, VeriSign name services group acting vice president."

The .com continues its virtual web address reign representing 47% of all domain names registered, with the German .de ccTLD in second, at 12%.
Domain trends for alternative gTLDs (.biz, .info etc) showed favourable digits, with registrations averaging 90 thousand per month.
