How the heck do you find out if a name you are interested in has type in traffic or links?

I use Marketleap.com to check the link popularity. I also compare the traffic rating with Alexa.com (not very accurate) just out of habit for me

Some sites have 300 links - but they do not create any hits, to make things worst a single link can get 1000s of visits. Their true quality can only be judged after you purchase the domain.

And - links tend to die out if your site is not active or doesn't have much content etc.
