Huge drop in traffic stats - 50% drop???

I watch my stats very closely..but more importantly I watch the RPM...which is waaaaaaay down along with the CTR on some very steady names..it has really been 50%of the norm for the last 4 days, I love parked.com and have a TON of faith in them & Donny...so I am hoping this is just a temporary fluctuation...hopefully

There are always ups and downs in domain parking..many many factors contribute and you can't really "blame" anyone or anything...but something definitely seems amiss here based on the very steady performance of names with parked in the past (and why we all agree they are the best 99% of the time)..maybe there is an issue with the reporting since the downtime?

It seems to be a global issue with many different parking programs.
The only one that has not really change for me is Bodis.

Not sure why ...

Make sure you have optimized your domains that you have with Parked by putting in a title, description, and keywords and lots of times they will get indexed by Google in around 10-14 days.

yes, i did that, but as i stated, in near 30 days my new regs had not been indexed, until this google bot error came along and as per i think what donny said, crawled sites it was 'not supposed to crawl'.

i have asked the new reg indexing question before in other subsections of dnf, never seem to get a really solid answer ... usually either side-stepped or a lot of if/maybe/could/should words ...

the only way to get a new site indexed is to hand submit it, or link to it, ... donny, does parked do either of these? if not, can someone claiming their new reg was indexed shed some light on 'how' exactly ... ? sorry, just being frank. i'd like to improve my ppc $. this is our concern dude.

(p.s. sorry if this is taking the original post off track, moderator feel free to make this a new thread if so desired.)

If it is some bots that are affecting Yahoo which is Parked.com's feeds (correct?) then how is this also affecting the Sedo.com's pages which is Google?

Or have the Search Engines changed something that causes pages to get indexed differently? Hard to imagine traffic simply disappearing.

As focus mentioned, RPM and CTR is way off. This has been going on now it seems for about a week.

HomerJ,

You don't have to hand submit or link to it as I have a lot of new regs that I park with Parked and the only thing I did was SEO them and many of them were indexed shortly thereafter (10-14 days) with Google. Because of this Google bot error or whatever it is, I think that a lot of the domains that were being listed are being delisted in favor of what now shows as domainexample.com/spidertrap.php or are as a result being pushed further down in the search results.

just have to say that my revenue at parked is actually way up the past few days. i'm assuming this is because nearly all of my traffic is type in only as very few of my pages are indexed, making me relatively immune from the whims of the googlebot. definitely not good if google is deliberately booting parked's pages.

Well the traffic is not lower on my names..just the rpm and clicks..although the update for yesterday did take a step in the right direction..so we shall see..

ah, i misunderstood. thought you were seeing lower traffic. so if traffic's the same, then wouldn't any google bot issues be a separate issue entirely?

Just out of curiosity, do the search engines periodically do this? Someone posted earlier that parking cycles are up and down - are the parking companies fairly swift at dealing with this?

Also, I can understand Google booting irrelevant content parked pages off, but what is wrong with parked pages with helpful, relevant ads?

Welcome. And I like your flag. Getting ready for 2010:

Google won't typically give you the boot if everything is legit. It will usually be the parking companies that boot you for fudging on the traffic.

Optimizing keywords is crucial to having relevant ads show up, but even then it is subject to google's interpretation.

Search Engines make changes everyday, sometimes they make big mistakes like they did last week. It happens. I remember before we launched Parked.com in some cases we were doing so well in Google that we lost about 30% of our revenue in 1 day when Google made a change. This is when we decided to not rely on search engines for traffic.

But it will come back, it always does.

Something is definitely amiss

Let's be patient guys! As Donny said, things will get back to normal. Let's be patient. Who knows, things might actually improve. :)

For the first time I heard Focus, questioning the stats at Parked

Anyway, I also think something not right at parked with the rev stats, Donny please look at this issue

1112, you had your best 3 days ever when everybody else was saying something wasn't right, but then yesterday your day is back to normal and now you are wanting me to look at the stats? Man!

The few people I looked at who I know their parked usernames, seem to be looking like normal again. And I promise, we didn't change anything!

Maybe it's some voodoo thing.

Donny

Donny does Parked filter out googlebot visits from our daily traffic stats?

I've got double the normal traffic so far today (sadly a 0% ctr wth!) and I'm suspecting google's little web-slave is making the rounds again - hopefully capturing our domains as they used to.

The GoogleBot-Change has nothing to do with the "one-day-downs".

There was some "Down-Days" on some domains since the past 7 days where parked is back online after the offline time.
Every "Down" was only 1 day, next day normal again.

The hardest "Down Days" was (13-09)
(on 1 domain from some hundred - the most are normal on every day!)
clicks, rpm & ctr -40%
then yesterday (20-09) at the same domain
clicks, rpm & ctr -90%
so long the stats were estimates it was normal,
then after the asterik was gone it changed and the clicks don`t count.

for me it looks like a "traffic quality balancing thing" for a longer time but it takes affect on one day. :?:

Donny, you seem to suggest the problem we are experiencing is related to some Google "bug". You also mentioned having a "friend" who you emailed to... If possible, could you share a little more with us? Is this 100% fact?

I pray for a bug, but some recent negative articles about domainers getting traffic from search engines may suggest otherwise. Do you also consider the possibility that this is not a bug but a coordinated move by their part?

Gotta be something going on.

Worst day of the month for me on Sedo and perhaps the worst of the year.

So it is not just a Parked issue.

whitebark - There are a few more SE spiders floating around today than normal. But these are the good ones. We are trying to flag them as soon as we see them so they don't show up in your stats, but sometimes we miss some. Basically we let them play all of they want, just don't show them as they are "real" people.

xxosxx - yes, I know quite a few people at Google and Yahoo. We noticed Googlebot not playing nice with robots.txt files last week, we thought it was just a mistake, but it wasn't. I verified with a few people that their was something that was not working right. But it wasn't all of the Data Centers, just some of them. One of my own personal sites was affected as well and it wasn't parked. I'm not too worried about Google traffic, sure it's free and it's great, but I learned a long time ago not to rely on it as it can go away in a second.

miraculix123 - Everybody was different. My personal account did better Saturday and Sunday, then Monday or Tuesday. But Wednesday and Thursday were higher than all of them. Some people had completely different results than I did. When I looked at the 20 or so people that have said anything to us about stats issues yesterday about 90% of them were back to normal, but some people who were higher were back down where they were before. Then when I look in some of our really large accounts, everyday they were about the same as normal +-5% each day.

Donny
