Dear smonline,
some people only have negative things to say....

not me .... even before this 'sale' of culinary.com,
iculinary.com would have been at least a couple of hundred $ , however maybe with this sale you may can reach the low $xxxx.

domain names with the i or e in front are always selling ... no, not in the millions or 100,000's but always an easy sale for a few hundred...the biggest problem is that they are hard to come by...so fellow dealers and investors having a rough time excepting the fact that they overlooked names.

best of luck !!

Wolfis,

Thanks for your input. I agree with you. The hottest NEW music name is itunes.com

I & E names do still sell and I think the market is opening up a little.

PS One thing I have noticed here is that there are some smart asses. No big deal. I can be one too if necessary. Hope I don't have to be :-)

It has nothing to do about negative things. He asked for an appraisal (peoples opinions), and that is what he is getting. I am going to have to agree with the others and appraise it at $Reg cost

Some e's and i's work well in my opinion, however this one IMHO doesn't sound right. (INternet Culinary), however what drives optimists to succeed are pessimists :)

Good Luck,
Sid

Who? I've been around here a while and I haven't come across any.

PS- Word of advice - if you get offended by appraisals don't ask for them.

My opinion. "i" does not work well with this word as a prefix. And keep in mind, buyers of culinary.com may have paid WAY too much. The jury will be out on that for a while. If base value on the name alone, I would say reg fee to $50. But, one could give a name like culinary.com a run for heir money if developed, because neither gets a lot oftype in traffic. I think culinaryarts.com is better than culinary. I don't think Eds appraisal qualifies him as a smart ass. His next reply might though : ) Im just gald there are plenty of smart asses here becuase being qualified as one is much better than being a dumbass.

Also, you shouldn't give appraisals if you've never asked for one yourself.

Come to think of it Ed30, do you have any domains because I've never seen you buy, sell, or have anything appraised. Maybe you did a long time ago, but I haven't seen anything recently.

One last thing about "appraising" names since we are giving advice. "Reg fee" isn't an appraisal. It's a personal take on the value of the domain. Obviously iCulinary.com is worth more than $8.

No a true appraisal is both the person's input as to the current value of the domain AND reasons why it's only worth the given price.

I will take a stab at this... Ahemm (clears throat):

iCulinary.com - worth anywhere from $450.00 - $500.00 Could be worth more if you did some reasearch as to potential buyers. The "i" in the name does effect the price of the domain, but not the "generic-ness" of the name which is a good thing. If you seen the name on a billboard you would be able to recall the URL address, as opposed to "MyFavoriteCulinaryQuisine.com".

advice: Develop name-space, especially in the wake of the $100K sale of Culinary.com, and then sell.

This is an example of a good "reg fee" appraisal (if I may)

MyFavoriteCulinaryQuisine.com- Reg fee - It is too long. Traditionally any domain with more than 10 characters in it is too long (8 is almost too much, let alone 10). Also this URL address has more than two words in it, and is not a familiar saying. Therefore, no one in their right mind would pay more than $8 (reg fee) for this name... That is of course except you...

///end of example///

I've asked for several appraisals since I've been here.

You'll find some of my names at www.dnstudio.com

LOL...lively thread...Thanks everyone for their input. Got some good ADVICE (like a Dr. Phil column!)

Also, liked the quip from NexSite: "Im just gald there are plenty of smart asses here becuase being qualified as one is much better than being a dumbass".

Good point NexSite. One question: Is that you're glad or gald to be a smartass/dumbass?

I also like Izopod's take (of course I'm prejudiced): "If you seen the name on a billboard you would be able to recall the URL address, as opposed to "MyFavoriteCulinaryQuisine.com".

Again, appreciate the feedback.
