Hi Acroplex,

I expect a decrease in ASCII domains' prices before IDNs become more valuable ... and that will be because many big ASCII portfolio holders may sell in bulk to get liquidation ....

ASCII domains have reached already to a saturation or maximum level with crazy prices.... and the big growth happened and finished !.... the growth is very slow now and it will be much slower in the future if any. and people are holding on their premium names because they just want them and not for investment purposes.

IDNs will play a role in that by withdrawing slowly the non-english natives from ASCII market and providing a new ground for new premium registrations.

I don't advice you to get in IDN market now because you will need much time to learn the tools and you don't have the language skills.... but I advise you to sell your .nets and .orgs as I think bank interest would be much better :)

Good luck to you anyway
Regards,
Gee

God, I hope not. He might. He might have everything I want.

I own the french IDN chérie.net, which I guess the literal translation is Darling or the like:

chérie Noun, feminine (a) (ma) ~ (my) love, (my) darling

Just using one of my own IDN's as an example.

Will it pan out? Who knows. For $5.99 per year reg fee, I'll see where it goes.

This dead thread only came back to life because markits posted some made-up shit about offers he never made. So I am now ready to bust some sorry-ass IDN fan-boi, get ready to be bitch-slapped. Bring it on.

He doesn't need real bank interest. He posts enough here and makes enough in DNF $ "interest" to buy himself some .biz names.

Get a life, wizz kid. You're not worthy to lick the sweat off my glands. When you have something to say, talk to me directly, not in the 3rd person. That's for wussies.

I do not see any native French speaker typing chérie.net in their browser.
Let me guess : 1 typein/month ?

You are comparing apples and oranges here.

I have French ascii dot nets with French Ovt over one million and they barely get views. The issue is not IDN vs ASCII, but extension. The rules and behavior are different for every language and country.

French IDN and ASCII dot coms are golden. French use .fr and .com for the most part. Your 'mylove' domain in .fr might not be so great even though the dot com and net extensions are good in the USA for English. You cannot compare dot net in one language to dot net in another. Japanese use .com and .jp more than dot net. Other countries use dot org or info more than dot net. Some countries use dot net and less dot com. Germans use .de most of all. Portuguese can do better in .com and .br than in .pt or .net because most Portuguese speakers are in Brazil. :eek:

I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.

How many French surfers you think are aware of that possibility ?

I do not see any native French speaker typing chérie.net in their browser.
Let me guess : 1 typein/month ?

:lol: WOULD HAVE TO SAY ZERO. Just regged it two days ago on a whim. :lol:

:eek: Problem having a diversed portfolio? I would say out of 3000 domains, I would have to guess I have perhaps 60-70 IDN's. Only two french. :asleep:

Feel free to be the first type in. :yes:

Merci :ranger:

Apples and oranges here? WTF???

This all started with the trashing of educational.net saying the world evolves around IDN, I make mention that I have a French IDN (only one of two) out of a portfolio of perhaps 3000 domains, and you want to do a dissertation on the internet and internet usage and the .net vs everything else?

The extension was not even the point.

You say you think I get the point.

Nope, I don't. I thought FR was short for FREE and DE was an abbreviated version of DEE DEE DEE.

chérie=french
MyLove=english

Nope...no apples and oranges here. French word and it's English counterpart.

But please...do go on and on and help me out to understand as I am afraid I missed the point somewhere in my career :yes:

I agree. But I find this thread amusing. No matter what side I take, which is not really taking any side, I use an example out of my own portfolio and now I am not sure if it is the pro IDN or the anti IDN that is coming out swinging.

It's kinda fun...and funny.

I just wish someone would by my Cisco stock for what I paid for it. That is the only reason I am on the forum. To find some sucker, I mean buyer, to unload, I mean sell this to.

I'll qualify my laughter above with a statement;

We're sitting at around 12% FireFox penetration, and 16% IE7 penetration., but let's say, conservatively, that 20% of Internet users can access IDN domains. There are some IDN .COMs for sale on this forum with great keywords - stuff like "investment.com" in German - domains that should get native type-in traffic. Yet none of the sales threads mention significant traffic. Not one. Other than the occasional hint at a "trickle" of traffic which, just like any ASCII domain is attributable to SE bots.

Even if this flood of IDN traffic does occur, the non-US traffic is worth less, on a dollar for dollar basis, than the traffic from a US visitor to an ASCII domain. So, no, ASCII domains are not going to decrease in value whilst IDNs simultaneously increase in value.

So true, so true.

All I wanted me was a little ol IDN French word. Might have something to do with my French heritage.

It gets no traffic. Age? 2 days old.

But now that y'all are aware of it, click the hell out of it and make me some moola! :yes:

I did not trash your English domain names. Why are you being so hostile?

A French domain name in dot net is not comparable to an English word in dot net. You are correct that the extension was not your point, but you used an example that is not logical. Chérie.fr (or maybe chérie.com) could be compared to mylove.com, but the dot nets are not equal.

Dude, or girl...sorry...don't know. That, believe me, was not hostile.

The only thing that was being compared to at the time was .net and .net.

How, pray tell, did I use an example that was not logical by making the mere mention of Chérie.net...(SEE POST 460)

On the other hand, chérie.net and 美味的.com won't fly here. But if you have MyLove.net or Delicacy.com...you've got a gem.

.NET to .NET...a superb example. Educational.net to MyLove.net...straight up comparison.

And an equal admission that chérie.net is perhaps not the best in the world but I love the shit out of it, mon chérie.

So if you insist on keying in on a word or two taken without reading the thread or if you insist on jumping in the middle of something and weighing in your opinion when I think your statements make no sense nor your comparisons when someone asked me a question and then running with that misguided information, then rave on.

This one of my hostile threads or posts? That truly is comparing apples to oranges.

Dude here.

I, too, like chérie.net. Sweet domain name. In time, I hope that French IDNs and ASCII get as much traffic and clicks as their English counterparts.
