IDN's dropping like flies

AAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Keep dreaming.

I meant Decrease in prices' growth of ASCII domains... sorry for misunderstanding.

for example sex.com sold for 14 millions .... I doubt it will sell after 5 years for 28 millions for example so the investor can double the money.

so from an investor point of view ... ASCII domains loose and IDNs win.

I'll qualify my laughter above with a statement;

We're sitting at around 12% FireFox penetration, and 16% IE7 penetration., but let's say, conservatively, that 20% of Internet users can access IDN domains. There are some IDN .COMs for sale on this forum with great keywords - stuff like "investment.com" in German - domains that should get native type-in traffic. Yet none of the sales threads mention significant traffic. Not one. Other than the occasional hint at a "trickle" of traffic which, just like any ASCII domain is attributable to SE bots.

Even if this flood of IDN traffic does occur, the non-US traffic is worth less, on a dollar for dollar basis, than the traffic from a US visitor to an ASCII domain. So, no, ASCII domains are not going to decrease in value whilst IDNs simultaneously increase in value.

That's an interesting factoid about Firefox and IE7 penetration specific to germany. Where did you get that Beachie?

In other news: Educational.net has been sold. The last laugh's on me.

acroplex so your .org's make more money than IDN .com's?

mmm thats laughable

Maybe you need to post some names you own? Let's see them.

It's gotten personal eh? I guess what's what the IDN fan-bois resort to when slapping comes from all directions.

Ouch! That's gotta hurt, IDN fan-boi.

I would post them but you might cringe while on your knees since I own such holy names.

Don't worry, I won't. I can't read Klingon.

I can't find it again :( I found it in Google - there's a page with a breakdown of browser usage by country for Jan 2007.

is IDN still around ... :(

Actually, this may pain the naysayers here, but my japanese idn receive traffic already even though the penetration of IE7 is 0% and penetration of firefox is low single digit. This is because the SEO advantage granted to IDN by a certain dominant search engine has kept many of my mini-sites on the top page steadily for the past few months. I have received some evidence of type-in traffic too but it is very little given the current browser limitations and a population of people who do not yet know what the URL bar is for. However, my SE traffic averages about 1000 per developed domain with a 20% CTR on traffic earning about 10-15 cents per click. Let's compare that to an equivalent ascii .jp address which receives 1) zero search engine advantage because Japanese do not search in english (those of you without passports please contain your surprise) 2) will never ever receive type-in because Japanese do not type in english urls.

So you can continue bashing IDNs if you would like, it is just as amusing for some of us as it appears to be for you.

Those penetration numbers are petty much correct, I think they came from MS blog. But the penetration is mostly in English speaking countries so IDN does not see the effect yet. IE7 is still not out in most of Asia so traffic is pretty minimal. Traffic in Russia and Arabic countries is starting to be seen by most, but still a trickle. IDNs are on their way to mainstream use as soon as browser support gets there. Hopefully most domainers will grab at least a few premiums for speculation if nothing else.

I have just traded five asciis (including taq.org, sportsmen.net etc) for five idns.

We just got an offer (XX,XXX) for our client's portfolio of European generic IDN names .com
Sorry - can't divulge more:lol:

I have allot of IDN's but I don't blow smoke. I have yet to see any valid proof other than those posted on DNJournal that IDN's are getting more than any .com. Listen, I'm not here to fight with anyone but please people let's keep expectations real. The more smoke and mirrors the less reality. Again, I have 100 IDN's myself so one day should things pick up I hope to be in a good position but I'm surely not going to brag about it and I won't post that I sold my IDN's for one million dollars but I can't tell you what they are? That's hysterical. Anyone can say that about anything. This stuff hurts the community. It's all baloney hocus pocus crap.

Take two aspirins.
You'll feel better.
And see your shrink in the morning.

A voice of reason in an ocean of pure hype.

Talking to the mirror again?

acroplex is wheelin and dealin?

I don't buy crap - hence my distancing from the IDN pirate ship.

I was the one who made the trade deal, and what I gave up definitely wasn't crap - it was five single-numeral persian domains.

However, I am always interested in diversifying my domain portfolio, and I had a need for quality ASCII domains to help augment my quality IDN portfolio.

If anyone else is interested in making similar trades, I am always in the mood to consider good deals.

I don't get why we have to keep bickering back and forth about this. I am in the industry for a couple of reasons, but one of the top reasons is to make some money. In my opinion, they way to do that is to keep an open mind, reg and buy selectively, develop where you can to increase your domain's (and your potfolio's) value, and take advantage of all of the options that you can sucessfully navigate in order to add to your bottom line.

Some people can't or don't want to learn even the minimal amount of a foreign language necessary to buy good, solid IDNs. Fine, that's their choice. In my opinion, they are missing out on an opportunity. But that's my viewpoint; theirs may be different. I feel that I missed an opportunity by not jumping on the .mobi wagon from the first, regging some prime names, and selling out big. Are the people who did that sellouts or chumps? I don't think so. I think they are savvy. To me, IDNs are different from that example, in that I have more faith in their long term potential than I do in .mobi. Again, that's my view of things, and my portfolio and my domaining interests and my daily domaining activities reflect that. I feel that I missed a big opportunity by not buying a crapload of domains in 1996 and sitting on them to sell big today, and in my view, IDNs could very well provide a parallel to that opportunity.

My point is this: do what you need to do to make your business (or hobby, passtime, however you look at your role as a domainer) successful. There should be no reason for personal attacks or pissing contests.

Oh, and again, if anyone is looking to diversify and would like to trade some ASCII domains for some IDNs, or some IDNs for some ASCIIs, shoot me a PM. I'm always looking for new opportunities.
