I had a guy buy back a name from me that he sold me about six months prior. He paid me $9k and I bought it for $8k but was having buyers remorse. He posed as a WHOIS email random and acted like he knew nothing about domains to haggle on the price I guess.

talking about the sale on the forum is probably what made the deal flop... I would have waited and closed the deal and then talk about it, someone in your position is being watched by thousands of domainers, maybe someone tipped them off!

Nah, the fired the employee I was negotiating with and the new negotiator said no to the deal.

I've re-purchased about 30 domains sold over the years and allowed to drop... some in the mid $x,xxx range.

This is a very strange business. I also post lists of domains for sale in the mid $xx range every so often, and I sell a few but not a lot. But almost every time I do this I sell one of the names ON THAT LIST for about $1,000 (and me scrambling to remove it from the sale list here).... which means every single DNF member missed the value -- further proving there is no such thing as a "domain expert".

What are some of the names you've sold for $1,000 that were listed on dn forum for $xx?

My story is I sold a name to a buyer, and I got it back from backorder, then he ask me to sell to him again, so I sell again at the same price. Then after another year, he gives the name back to me for free, and i sold it again to another buyer. Triple sold = epic win.

Yes, twice, but never on such a high-value domain:

One that I'd hand-registered I sold for about $60 (here at DNForum), and then I re-registered it less than a year later.

One I sold for about $400 (either here or at NamePros, I forget which) and then reregistered a few years later.

Another spin on maxing a domain's return:

Once I sold a hand-registered patriotic/military .com domain for about $300 on Sedo; and then registered the .us version and sold it privately to the same party (for about $200).

But stuff like this happening is definitely not the norm for me.
